Yes, because it's an existential issue for Russia. Ukraine under NATO is a national security threat. A neutral Ukraine is not. Which is what the Minsk agreements sought to achieve but were ignored by the west and instead the ploy was never to agree but play for time.

When you mass 60k troops on the Donbas border then its a provocation. A year earlier a similar stand off occurred that was dealt with in a non violent manner. The second time meant there was no intent by Ukraine for peace.

Russia mainly used Iranian drones for depleting the Ukraine air defenses like S300, Buk M1. That's the reason the Ukraines got Patriot PAC3. Those drones where good enough to attack a large static infrastructure, but are useless in attacking any hardened shelters in air bases. Once Ukraine uses their air defenses, if its within the range of a Lancet drone, the air defenses will be observed by a Orion drone for smoke trails, later model versions had thermals which meant that it could easily find them. Once a really high value target is found like a S300 or PAC 3 or IRIS-T there radars...

Trump administration ordered to reinstate tens of thousands of fired probationary workers​

Tens of thousands of federal government probationary workers fired in recent weeks as part of President Donald Trump's sweeping cuts to the federal workforce must be reinstated immediately, federal judges in California and Maryland ordered Thursday.

The first decision, from U.S. District Judge William Alsup in San Francisco, is one of the most far-reaching court defeats so far in the Trump administration's efforts, led by top White House adviser Elon Musk, to gut the federal bureaucracy.

The judge ordered six federal agencies ‒ the departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Agriculture, Energy, Interior, and Treasury ‒ to reinstate recently hired or promoted probationary employees who were terminated by the Trump administration.

Later Thursday in Maryland, U.S. District Judge James K. Bredar granted a temporary restraining order demanding the Trump administration reinstate federal probationary employees terminated on or after Jan. 20.

The case was filed by attorneys general in 19 states and the District of Columbia, all Democrats.

Bredar, appointed by former President Barack Obama, signed the order after 8 p.m. Thursday, as well as a memorandum stating the federal government must follow the rules when it terminates a large number of employees.

It stayed the terminations of probationary employees across 18 departments and agencies named among the 41 defendants in the case. The order states all affected employees throughout the U.S. shall be reinstated by 1 p.m. Monday.

Among the included departments are Commerce, Education, Health and Human Services, and USAID.

The judge also stayed the "illegal RIFs" (reductions in force) for 14 days, and stated the administration shall not conduct any of those reductions unless it meets the regulations that require adequate notice.

Without providing the required advance notice, the federal government layoffs harm the states, which weren’t ready to bear the load of providing the required services to the terminated employees, the order added. It excludes the Office of Personnel Management, the National Archives and Records Administration, and the Department of Defense.

These guys are still doing friendship diplomacy.

GOI's policy is to engage the US on whatever they want without challenging the US publicly.

So on trade the US says whatever they want but the Indian side is quiet and doesn't directly respond as I expected. Typical Modi.

For the next six months things will be turbulent and will have to settle after. Because you cannot manage the world when it's in a constant state of anxiety.

The bottom line is Modi is respected by Trump as is India by the US administration. May not seem like it now because as I said things are in flux. You cannot make any assumptions let alone predictions until things stabilise and hence more predictable. Remember the US cannot push India beyond a point as they need an anchor in the region.
