Hi. I've some doubts regarding Phenom II X2 550 BE. I don't intend to buy one. I know these questions are childish. But, still want some clarifications.
1. Does the multiplier remain unlocked in it even after 2 hidden cores are unlocked?
2. If an X4 B50 is overclocked to 3.2ghz, does it perform better than x4 955 be?
Thanks.

^ because 550BE is not guaranteed to unlock, and if you rma an unlocked 50BE, you it wont be so easy to get an unlocked 550BE in return.

its a matter of luck for some and it was a matter of opportunity for some :P

those who could take the opportunity have saved that 3.5k (was even more difference before) with confidence and those who are willing to take the risk can depend on their luck.

not every batch of 550BE gets unlocked:bleh:
check some older threads regarding 550BE unlocking

also the temperature sensors fail
after unlocking the cores .......................................which is not a big problem
though

check some older threads ull get a lot of info on that:)

wat incase of an X4 620????

X4 taken to 3.2 can beat X4 955??

ny idea of how much can an X4 620 be OCEd???

ny much difference btween X4 620 and X2 550 BE expect the cores??

@sudan_rulz: It's Phenom II vs athlon II. X4 620 can't beat 955 as it lacks L3 and also has little L2. Athlon IIs lack L3 cache which most Phenom IIs have.

guys having the extra 3.5k should go for 955 instead..

should not depend on luck..

although im having a 550be unlocked to X4 B50 running at 3885Mhz with hyper 212..

pretty good..

Now PII X2 550 costs just 4.5k

and 965BE C3 is 9.2k which is more than double.

No use is goin for 955 for just a 1k save, coz the new 965 is C3, which is guarenteed to go about 300mhz or higher OC than the maximum oc on a 955.

ny idea of how much can an X4 620 be OCEd???

it goes 3.2GHz to 3.3GHz stock voltage

and Overvolting, it goes to 3.6GHz - 3.92GHz using stock cooler(tweaktown got 3.92GHz!!!)

EDIT:-

Tweaktown got 3.9GHz not 3.92(20mhz less)

2)x4 620 cannot be overclocked more than 400mhz on air cooling

u hav limited knowledge

check this stuff

AMD Athlon II X4 620 Quad Core Processor Review Page 3 - Testing: Setup & Overclocking - Overclockers Club

AnandTech: AMD Athlon II X4 620 & 630: The First $99 Quad Core CPU

Overclocking isn't unfortunately as good as the Phenom IIs; the result of a conscious design decision or simply the early nature of the Propus die. Extra voltage proved mostly useless, I could only approach 3.4GHz with an extra 300mV.

not every proccy is that good

the one that was given to the team of overclockers club just did a 3.133GHZ

even after overvolting

The sample uve shown is a good one

but on the go athlonIIx4 's are NOT considered as great overclockers

last but not least anandtech is better than tweaktown:P

1.Why have AMD reduced the FSB on X4 955 compared to X2 550 say 3600 and 4000 mhz respectively? It seems like amd want to kill customers paying more money.
2.Does overclocking through multiplier produce same heat as doing it through fsb tweaking?

@Ocizer : No offense but that overclocker site is the shittiest when it comes to overclocking, when I brought X3 Phenom I saw the OC potential of the X3 at that site even the review of Mb I have, and according to them both can get past 10FSB since multiplier was unlocked.

I am still using the same board and changed the processor thrice with X3 8650, X49950, and now X2/X4 B50 and the results were quite good. Not as good as other Ocer boards out there but with good cooling and power supply my board and all the processors I had, have got atleast 700mhz stable clock. IMHO ditch that site specially for OC results. XS and other sites do much better OC test then that overclockers :|

On a side note the X4 620 can do 1ghz stable easily with decent cooling. My friend has it running 24X7 with TRUE black push pull.
