What are the components that i need to setup a 24 x 7 download rig using the new "ATOM" cpu?:eek:hyeah:

i.e., Which kind of PSU, cabinet and LAN Card?

And it is as reliable as normal cpu's like celeron?

And i have a doubt that there is any connection between the processor sppeds and download speeds? (soorry for asking like this, but i want to know????):S :S

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Absoolutely not! Even a lowly mobilephone CPU can do 3G speeds easily.

Under similar conditions they should be very reliable as they use even lower power and heatup less and are more efficient WRT normal CPUs.

The ATOM CPU+Mobo combination + the usual stuff like RAM/HDD etc. You can skip the display if you remote admin the system.

^^ Nope, Atom is gonna be used for UMPC, another alternative is the VIA Isaiah proccies..

But are those even available, ir Atom, in retail ?

Unless you have some old components lying around, there's very little sense in building a new rig, secondary to your main rig, as a "download" machine. You'll have to spend at least 5K if you're buying new stuff and it'll take years of 24/7 use to make that up in terms of power savings.
Ignore my comment if you do not have a computer already.

Atom is avail in retail. atom is NOT as power efficient as it was touted to be..

this is not coz of hte atom as such, but more of a limitation due to the 945chipset which it uses.. power draw on atom / sempron le will end up being comparable thanks to the chipset.

based on what i saw at toms, an atom rig draws 59watts.

the atom is supposed to have a tdp of 35 watts.. while the semprons wattage is more like 45watts.

atom alone,35W? no wai

more like 3.5W tdp

yep,i945 is a mistake, but its economical & convenient for intel than poulsbo SCH.

I hope someone will bring SiS 671 based mb's soon enough.

You'd be better off getting a athlon LE like others have suggested. I don't know about the atom, but it makes sense to get a download rig which can do full HD, so that you can use it as a HTPC in due course of time.

IMHO atom is way too overhyped, i think a 2160 + biostar 7050 or the above sempron le combo would be much better. And plus the biggest disadvantage of the atom is its single core limitation :(

Finally i dropped in

Sempron 1150 - 1600
Asus 690v - 2600
Zebby PSU - 450
iball Grabbit - (already have)
Connection through remote without monitor!!!!!!!!:S

Is all the above OK guys?:hap2:
