DTDC-Mumbai Octroi problem

I had sold my Samsung 26" monitor to a member here at Andheri West, Mumbai and had dispatched it via DTDC a week ago.but now, he gets a call from them DTDC guys asking for 3k payoff as Octroi taxes.The monitor was sent as "For Repair" with bill.I have shipped many stuff to mumbaikaars including 25 kg Z5500 speakers and a problem like this never did occur till now.

I asked the DTDC guys here to call them up, and the Mumbai courier office replied they have to pay the 3k to release the monitor.So,what are all my options guys?

Did you clarify with DTDC Kerela whether DTDC charges Octroi for shipping Monitor?
 
^^they called the mumbai office and repeated what they said " Its a new form of tax and the has to be paid to get it "
 
Have forwarded a complaint to DTDC.....let's see if the courier guy is just trying to push his luck. :(
 
If sent as for repair than from where does octroi stuff arrives..convince them it has gone for repairing they cant check your stuff unless its a narcotic
 
even i was charged octroi 2 times, since then i avoid getting directly to mumbai, i always get it to my friends house in navi mumbai & do not want to take any chance, since they do not charge there, the buyer should have been aware of this octroi & this is not something new.

whereas it is completely dependent on octroi peoples mood & if dtdc has paid the octroi which they have to, they will not release it unless we pay them.

no use talking to dtdc people, it is just waste of time & energy.
 
Octroi is charged at 5.5% of officer's assessed value.

Product value if clearly mentioned is used for octroi, else the officer rates the value on their own..

In your case 3k octroi means that valuation done as 54500 Rs.

Please complain and fight with DTDC against this. If reqd share a copy of original purchase bill, and also ask for octroi receipt amounting to 3k, if they disagree.

Payment must be done ONLY for the amount paid for octroi and the exact amount only.
 
^^woah, thanx for the details bro.....there was bill provided as DTDC is damn adamant to ship something huge without proper bill.Its billed for 27k and i think they just doubled the OCtroi charges @ 55k.Thanx for a clear cut argument.

DTDC guys never leave it with octroi guys, its a huge risk & they always pay it & release it & octroi is charged 4.5% of the total amount, even if we fake it in the bill, they evaluate it themselves.

so there is not question of not paying it coz DTDC will produce the octroi receipt for the same.

one only has 50% chance when the consignment is stuck with octroi people the u can bribe them & take it out but dtdc guys do not have time for it.

so there is not a chance not paying it when its already been paid.
 
3-4% of Total cost mentioned in Bill will be charge on any electronic product. If your voucher shows Rs.10,000/- than Octroi charges are from Rs.300 to Rs.400/-

Did you STICK bill on front side or viewable side of parcel... if not you are in trouble.

Authority can FINE 10 times of Original Tax Amount... so I think Tax is Rs.300/- but you (may be) didn't stick/reveal the actual cost & want to hide (they think so) so they fine & amount rose from Rs.300/- to Rs.3000/-

I don't think any one can do anything... but Octroi Agent ;) ask buyer to visit DTDC office & see where the parcel is i.e. in DTDC custody or Octroi.

Last year I got 2 parcel from xTxC, they charge me Rs.30/- each time for Rs.300/- product, when I ask to show Original Octoi Paid Receipt they offer me xTxC Receipt :@ I come to know what xTxC or their man did but to avoid hassle I paid them.

The days of evasion are long over, and unless you really have some pull, no one is going to risk it.

Its true that the fine is usually 10x actual octroi i.e. 55%.

Just tell them if they 1k/2k/3k submit actual octroi receipt (not agents) with valuation clearly marked as per your submitted bill.

Bluedart & DHL rock in these things, no jhol, perfectly done with all paperwork.
