i got a new 512mb module installed on my pc

the setup is like
dimm 1 channel a : 512mb
dimm 2 channel a : 256mb
dimm 1 channel b : 256mb
dimm 2 channel b : empty

earlier my system was running in dual channel mode. obviously tats not the case now..however, one annoying problem cropped up...each time my system boots, the bios makes it a point to notify me tat i can get another matching module and make it run in dual channel. how to turn this off? :S

plz help.

Put the 256 from channel a to channel b. That way you'll have 512 in each channel. Maybe it'll work.

dual channel works if u have 2 or 3 pair of memory that is of equal size and running at same latency, thats the reason its not running in dual channel, if u want to run it in dual channel, sell those 245 x 2 ram and get a single stick of 512 mb

i don want dual channel config

i am happy with single channel

how do i tell my bios to leave me alone with wat i have?

qf, in the bios there would be a option, look in standard cmos features - Halt on look for memory errors or something & uncheck it or look if halt on is selected to all, if yes, change it to something else like just keyboard & try.

see if you still get the prompt, also go thru' the m/c manual.

sell all the above three rams and get a 1GB stick ....and enjoy the single channel nirvana.

k..i'll try out wat zhopudey and anish suggested.

@deejay

i got tat 512mb module yesterday only and u want me to sell tat? :o

besides, i don think i'll get a good resale value for those 256mb sticks. i'll end up spending more this way.
