Hello Te's
I want to purchase a dual sim phone. After going through some of the dual phone threads, i see people mostly suggest samsung phones(for dual sim dual active) but no one is suggesting Micromax phone.

Is anyone out there using micromax phone. I intend to purchase Q1 series phone. People have warned me to stay away from phones having high SAR. Does this model have an high SAR rating?

Kindly suggest me some good quality phones if this one is having issues. budget is limited upto 3k.
Thanks..

i use a micromax Q5 fb as my 2nd phone since 8 months now . does its job of calls and sms. I dont use the phone a lot and i got it 2nd hand for very cheap so I am satisfied.

Micromax is not a brand as well settled as Samsung or Nokia.

Though it has a good product lineup, it'll always be viewed as a secondary choice by most users who swear by Nokia/Samsung.

I would personally recommend a Samsung as well for the sheer brand stability that it enjoys.

what is SAR and how does it harm?
Specific absorption rate (SAR) is a measure of the rate at which energy is absorbed by the body when exposed to a radio frequency (RF) electromagnetic field. SAR is usually averaged either over the whole body, or over a small sample volume (typically 1 g or 10 g of tissue). The value cited is then the maximum level measured in the body part studied over the stated volume or mass.

The higher the SAR the more radiation is absorbed.

How to find out what SAR % should be?
North American and Australian Standard. The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 1.6 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over one gram of body tissue. European Standard. The SAR limit for mobile phones used by the public is 2.0 watts/kilogram (W/kg) averaged over ten grams of body tissue.

For comparison sake:

Samsung Corby - 0.63

Motorola RAZR 2 V9 - 0.96

Nokia E71 - 1.33

Micromax Phone - 1.82+

Acceptable rating - Less than 1.6

Ok I have query regarding Spice M4250 mobile phone Product Link, I am planning to buy this phone from letsbuy (dscnt of 500 cpn too :) ) but have a concern of SAR rating, now the manual says that SAR Level [SAR10g(W/Kg)] LB 0.867ï¼›HB 0.28 (Manual Source).

Is this SAR rating reliable? How good are Spice phones?

spice / micromax /lava/ g-five and all other lemon etc,, all are cheap chinese phones and they r bound to have high SAR no matter what , better to bhuy a cheap nokia fone than these flashy fones ,

i wud buy a decent samsund dual sim phone in 3k range and stay away from these cheap companies which can mushroom only in India :P

I have 1.4k priced micromax all is good with FM reception is way better than Nokia 5130xp & SE K750i, but some time in between talk (2 time in last 4 months) there is some sort of sound (zong/tong/pong/pooonnnn) which are very loud & unbearable to ear (sound is just like in old Doordarash day when there is no signal or blank channel).

Yep, all these manufacturers basically re-brand the plethora of Chinese mobile devices, produced in factories which don't quite follow all the necessary regulations and make use of inferior components, ultimately making them a cheaper option to consider.

If you're getting a really fancy phone for 2-3K, you ought to know there's lot of cost cutting involved.

If I had to buy myself or gift someone a phone for under 2K, I'd rather spend it on a basic phone from one of the reputed brands. (Personal opinion) :)

Yes saar, agreed, most Indian mobile brands, simply rebrand some Cheap Chinese knockoff, Fact is that none of these Brands have thier own Manf or R&D setup, Just import, put on brands on mobile thats it...

Getting a Samsung instead..

Whatever else- wanted to buy a cheap fone for my orchard maali- got micromax Q1+, which wz a dual sim qwerty with VGA cam for 1550.
Hoping it is still working a year hence, though there is a 1 yr warranty and a Micromax service centre in our town. Atleast the phone looked good and guy wz happy with a fancy looking kwerty fone !

..SNIP...
Post is quite old but I think I must reply. Well, you can't say NOKIA/Samsung have an SAR rating. I have Samsung Metro C3200 and Samsung Mpower Muzik F219 and on both the manuals, I get this:

SAR rating of this phone is:

RIGHT!, there is no rating written. IIRC, one of the b/w NOKIA phone I had (NOKIA 1250 or 1200 ??) also did not have any SAR rating written on the manual. Guess what, unlike Europe/US there is no government organization in India that controls SAR rating for mobile phones in India, e.g. we have ISI (now BIS) or AGMARK for food products but nothing for SAR rating control. NOKIA says they use European standards for India (check their website) and my best guess is they don't care. So, go shead and buy anything you like.

If SAR value is not printed on the manual, that does not mean that the phone does not comply with the accepted value. It actually does! Otherwise, those phones won't be allowed to be sold in US & European countries

BTW, here is the SAR values of your Metro C3200 phone at GSMArena:

Samsung C3200 Monte Bar - Full phone specifications

The Mpower Muzic is sold only in Indian market, so no SAR testing has been done. But Samsung being a reputed company, can be trusted on this.

There is no SAR testing or regulation done in India so manufacturers follow the European standards of 2.0 watts/Kg which is acceptable.

You cannot go ahead & buy those Chinese ones as they've tested & confirmed to have higher SAR values than acceptable.
