Hi!

My friend is facing this issue.

He has two drives (DVD Combo & DVD Writer) sony and Samsung

I google it and tried to find a solution but i couldn't. Can anyone gimme a solution?

He can't see drives in DISK MANAGEMENT, DEVICE MANAGER

He can't them in BIOS too. He can just see Floppy and HDD in BIOS

Please write back soon....

Thanks

IDE or sata? How old are these drives? Please give basic info of the system hardware-including which OS.

In the meanwhile, swap the power connectors or replace the cables or the port on the mobo, see if that works.

Its 5yrs old system.

I guess DVD combo is IDE and DVD writer is SATA(I am not sure about this)

He is using WINDOWS XP SP2
Pentium IV proccy

I asked him to unplug and plug it again and restart the system. He did, and the computer found NEW HARDWARE i.e., PCI modem. I don't whats matter with modem when we doing something with DVD drives.

In case of IDE devices you have to manually configure the rear jumper pins in the primary/secondary master/slave config for them to be detected even in the BIOS. Check the device manual for help on configuring the pins.

Full system config is required. And does that PCI modem actually exist in that system ?

RAM 2 x 256 MB and 1 x 1 GB
Monitor 17" CRT (I really confused why u need this)
logitech KB and Mouse
I am not sure about other things.

Please find the attachment if you are expecting something else. It's a snapshot of device manager when the system found new hardware. Really I don't know what you want to know. I mean system configuration. Sorry if i am not informative.

Weird have you tried plugging the devices in one at a time. First try the SATA one check with different power/sata cables till it gets detected then try with the other one.

Apparently it seems that this is an age old fix for even XP systems. If you venture to the registry key above by doing the following steps:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11*CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

1. Click on the start menu.

2. If this is a Vista machine in the search box type in “regedit” without the quotation marks.

3. Maximize the HKLM and then go ahead and browse until you reach the key listed above.

4. In the right panel you’ll see something along the lines of “UpperFilter” and “LowerFilter” you want to click on each “filter” key and hit delete. Click yes when it asks to confirm if you wish to delete the key.

5. Restart Windows.

6. Let me know if this works.

This fix is only applicable if you see the power light on the drive active.

I had this issue with my old samsung CD writer.Turned out that due to something it had turned out that it was due to a virus.

ask him if he has properly attached the IDE cable to the mobo and the writer, and same for the sata writer

also, is the power connector is attached to it? the 4 pic molex connector?

check cables first, then replace &recheck. At last try the same drive on another PC.so that you can conclude the problem fast !

Does the secondary settings (IDE/SATA) also enabled on BIOS !! RECHEK,else load with Bios defaults ............

anfjavid - Sorry, I don't know what's PCI Modem. He don't know whether it exists or not.

damn - Both of couldn't understand what's jumper pin master/secondary/slave

He can't see any dvd drive even in BIOS setup.

H2O, draglord, amd999 - I asked him to unplug and plug it again. He did, but no use. Still it's not working.

Hawk - Tray is opening when he presses the button and it closes. I believe tray is getting enough power.

Anish - Its not working, He can able to find only Lower circuit, there is no upper circuit. He deleted it and rebooted, but not working.

crvinay_4u - Virus????

Thank you guys for your response. Unfortunately its not done yet. If anyone can give some solution would really be appreciated. Thanks once again

look first connect only one drive, then check in bios whether sata and ide controllers r enabled or not.Enable them

try this once.
