DVD problem

The issue: Normally I simply write Data DVDs that work with the DVD player but sometimes I have encountered a problem, specially with AVI files that have good resolution (1GB or more in size), when the video does not play on TV (a normal analog TV).

Now, why is it so?

As a solution, I think making a proper DVD disk from these AVI files should serve my purpose. Am I right here? If yes, what is the best way to go about it? As I understand, I will have to first author a DVD folder and then burn it on disk.

I have various AVI files with different frame rate and bit rate and resolution? What will be the best way to author DVDs with them with least amount of loss in quality?

Also, can I mix AVI files with different framerates and bit-rate together?

What DVD Player do you have ? I have a cheap chinese generic one and it doesnt play video files above 800*600 resolution

Converting to DVD will solve your problem since the resolution will be lowered

The DVD player in question here is from Philips and it is quite a capable player. I think the problem is with TV. Can it be so?

Most probably the .avi's NOT playing is a resolution specific problem only..as Most DivX-DVD SAP r restricted to 720x576 PAL & 720x486 NSTC..u canot play any higher resolution videos(.avi's too) on that!...also there is another restriction of over/more than 2gb "single" video files Not playing on the DVD SAP,..so check out on these!!!
..btw, i also have a Philips divX-DVD Sap which faces the similarr restriction rules!!!

I have a philips DVP5965k and it can't play movies beyond a resolution of 720x576.

Also codec can be an issue because at times I get a "Video Codec Not Supported" Error but I can still hear the audio. Codec issue can also lead to a stuttering framerate.

I convert these files with mediacoder prior to burning them and test them with my pendrive.

Convert the Video to .vob format :hap2:

BTW I have never seen any video that is meant to be played on DVD Players in .avi format. Either they are in .vob format or in .mpeg :ohyeah:

Any DVD Player stating Divx support plays Divx and Xvid coded .avi files.

I wish there were dvd players that could play .h264 and supported ogm and mkv containers. I could really use it to watch anime on TV.

Sorry, u cant do much with this issue(playing those particular Hi-R .avis) as of now, except mayb upgrading to USB-HDD Media Players like the Western Digital one! or otherway to downgrade the video itself, to lower resolution.vobs (max@PAL or NSTC video resolutions), as to play in ur divX-DVD Sap!

U can technicallly re-encode those high res .avi to lower Divx-dvd sap compatible ones, but the output would be crap & the process a waste!!!

Dunno, from where u get those.avis, but in future, if u don't want any further trouble on these issues & want to play the .avi's directly from ur divX DVD-SAP(i.e without changing ur current h/w), just check the Resolution & bitrate (below 1500kbps) of those videos,(read the .nfo files), if they r within the resolution & bitrate limits as told b4.

For other codec & Packed bitstream related issues(without re encoding the .avis), u can try this little app "MPEG4 Modifier" from here >>> http://www.moitah.net/http://www.moitah.net/ (freeware)

& as for the 2gb limit of single .avi files, u can safely split them to 2or more smaller size files(without re-encoding) with this app "AVI Splitter" from here >>> AVI Splitter - software to split AVI video files (*it's a Paid App,but i reckon u know how 2 get that)..so there wouldn't be any problem then!

Also, u can Burn Various Bit rates & resolution .avis into the DVD(As data DVD) & safely play them on ur divX-DVD Sap,No problem in that!

Hope the above Helps!!! :)
