Be careful, the listing no longer specifies compatibility with optical drives. Not all of them do; so best to clarify with the seller.

Is there anything specific required to support a sata optical drive, except for the max current on the two different voltage lines?

Not exactly sure .. it could be the protocol support for the adapter to identify it as optical drive instead of a sata disk. I have the one listed above and it doesn't work for optical.

IMPORTANT: pin configuration of USB convertor for HDD (2.5inch) and optical drive (slim) are totally different. i mean sata signal pins is same. But power pin is different for both.
