Storage Solutions DVD writer not reading or writing CD-R /RW

I've a LG 4167B DVD writer.

The drive is recently not recognizing CD-R or CD-RW when I'm trying to use CD burning software like Nero, Imgburn etc. Even earlier burned CD-Rs are showing up as blank.

It is reading DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW. Sometimes factory made CDs are opening.

I've updated the firmware to the latest DL-13. Changed the IDE cable.

What is the problem here? Pls. help.
 
Run lens cleaner CD/DVD, maybe it is due to accumulate dirt. And if that doesn't work there are good chances CD reading laser is dead.

Yes, one is to read/write DVD and other CD. Both have different frequency laser diode. :)
 
Buy a new one rather than wasting time on troubleshooting... Also when a new DVD writer just costs 1.2k who wants an old junk....
 
Bro try updating drive firmware, try this optical drive on a different machine, try deleting upper and lower filters in registry search for it in google , im sure this will help, was a dell tech support guy for 4 yrs

for upper and lower filters try this

im sure deleting upper and lower filters will work , cos its meant to fix this issue

do try this and update us all well that article was for vista but it works for xp too as the older article for xp might have been archived sumwhere

Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs

im sure deleting upper and lower filters will work , cos its meant to fix this issue

That is the last option - because my optical drives are very rarely used once in 2 or 3 months and in my case these drives seems to gone kaput even without any heavy use.
 
Try to disconnect the drive, the power connector and the data chord.

and then see if it works or not.

else its a time to get a new drive.

Reconnect the cables too.

and i guess its a dud drive after no signs of life with all the tricks pulled to revive.

get a new drive.
 
The "disconnect everything then try" comment should be posted on AIDW maybe :P

Even my samsung crapped out just under a year of very rare usage, luckily there was a couple of weeks' warranty time left so got it replaced, but I guess you should just get a new one...
