I think my Sony dvd writer has gone kaput. I tried to burn a dvd in the morning the burn process completed 100% according to nero but when I inserted the disc the disc would not work on sony so I inserted it in my LG dvd writer, that showed that the disc was empty.

So in the evening I tried erasing a dvd-rw and burned a 700 mb movie onto it and the sony dvd writer did that perfectly.

So I tried to burn the same data I had burned in the morning but after 7 mins had passed the remaining time started fluctuating and instead of burning in 8min32s it completed burning it in 7min54s. The disc was working in LG but real slow and on Sony it worked even slower. I managed to copy 3.69gb iso file using LG in 8-9 mins but it took a lot of time to start. On sony trying to copy the same iso file made the system hang up and on removing the disc explorer restarted.

I just burnt the same data with LG and sony is now able to copy the data.

Please suggest a solution or a new DVD writer (IDE dvd writer with price), can repairing the dvd writer fix the problem? I need to burn about 4 dvds (max) a week and use 2 dvd writers for the task so that is 2 dvds for each dvd writer a week.

I managed to burn movies of around 4.3gb onto it and it worked fine on the dvd player but still while burning it the time fluctuated and reduced.

Please Help.
