Hello, everyone,

I want to buy a DVD writer because the ones I have (an LG GH22NP20 and GH22NS50) don't seem to be doing the job well. I've read the sticky in this subforum, but it seems rather dated and I'm unable to find the models it recommends (and a number of links there are broken). I've also looked around on the Internet (on cdfreaks.com and club.myce.com) but many of the recommended drives are not available here in Chennai.

Does anyone know of a DVD writer that will consistently give good results that is available in Chennai? I'll go anywhere to get one.

EDIT: Just thought I should add that it's important that the drive be capable of bitsetting and reading stuff on the Internet makes it seem like the Sony Optiarc AD 7240S suggested in this other recent thread doesn't do this.

Thanks for reading

Have you checked the Sony Optiarc Model AD7240.
using for last 4 months .. very good in reading discs as well as burning.

Thanks for the info, vivacious_tg. That was recommended in the other thread as well.

Would you happen to know where I could get a Samsung SH-S243? That seems to be a bit better from research on the Internet.

Yeah i would suggest not to buy Sony right now. It has pathetic performance while burning Dual Layer DVDs. I would suggest Asus brt drives.

yes i wouldn't suggest sony either but go for samsung..been using for a couple or years now..faced no problem yet

Dont go for samsung either buddy
i have a 2-3 yrs older samsung dvd-rw writemaster sh-w162z

the tray doesn't open at the first attempt and sometimes i have to use the pin to manually open the tray

i think this is the most common problem of dvd writers

But nowadays the old Samsung problem is gone !

Pick any from LG,SAMSUNG,SONY,HP,LITEON. There life depends on there own mood and your luck. LG one will cost 950/- in local shops.

Well, I went to the store and I had this exact choice. Now, I know that the NS50 is utter nonsense (since I own one) and so my choice was between the SH-S223 and the Optiarc 7240S. I followed the recommendation on that thread and bought the Sony 870S (which is the same as the Optiarc 7240S) and it worked out fine. I have much less trouble with the DVDs written with this drive so I'm really happy.

I would have preferred to buy the Samsung SH-S243 based on reviews, but given what was available, the Sony 870S seemed to be the best choice, and it works just fine in my experience.

do'nt take lg one........mine have that since 1 year.....now it does not read or write cd.......but write & read dvds....
