Just installed the new firmware BSKB.

For overspeeding the drive - what needs to be done.

Do you have to enable Solidburn from the Qsuite? What abt the bitsetting.. ANy other settings.

Heard that solidburn is only for DVD+R and DVD-R and is not compatible with CD-R...

Does overspeeding come by default with this new firmware.

I got the drive frmo Computer Selection at Lamington Rd contact no :23824567

The thing is the drive is in real short supply...i looked around in quite a few shops and every1 called the same person for the drive.
The guy at Computer Selection told me to pay an advance or rather a booking amount and he got me the drive in abt an hours time....

Atleast yesterday there were no 1640's off the self at Lamington...

Also i download the latest firmware which officially supports Overspeeding but when i tired to burn the Samsing DVD -R 8x at 16x it too me 26mins!!! :O
 
grease dude..its present in chennai market frm a month bak(read other ppl post)........mayb its pric is ard 3.25k there..check ritchie street

Remove NVIDIA IDE drivers if u have an nf3/nf4 board. I had the same issue once and removal of those fixed the problem.
 
@Chaos : I have the Asus K8V so nvidia ide drivers have nothing to do here....

also i installed Kprobe2 and the drive doesnt show up in it!

hmmm...installed, shows fine.

OT : What now? the last time i tried kprobe on my pio it didnt work...so...some1 tell me how to use it :S
 
If it ain't KProbe, try Nero CD-DVD Speed. Try scanning the disc @ 4x and also at the max speed. KProbe scans @ 4x only r accepted at cdfreaks. That's the reason am asking u ppl. to try CD-DVD Speed @ 4x and post it here.

@ Sunny, try changing the Driver to STPI from ASPI.

Check the link Quad. KProbe is used to check the quality of the burn on a media by ur burner.

@sandeep, the LG is burner is considered to be good. It's performance is good. Not sure abt. availability of DVD-RAM. U will need it only if ur gonna transfer from a digital video camera directly onto a disc.

^Guys, KProbe2 was made by a Lite-On employee, and as such, will only work with L-O DVD burners! No wonder it's not showing your Benq drives :lol:

And using CDSpeed, the accepted standard for scanning in the Benq forum is 8X, not 4X @ CDF!
 
Hi i went to lamington road today for benq 1640.I enquired at various shops,all gave me rate :-Rs3650(white) and 3700(black) including computer selection.
But unusually 1 shop gave me a rate of 3200/- for 1640 and yes i asked him twice whether is it 1640 and not 1620.
But the guy at mahavir electronics told me that although u get 2 years warranty,the chances of that warranty after 1 year are very slim.Then i came to know from various sources that benq are packing their bags and will leave india soon.Dunno how much of this is true?
Finally i bought it from my dealer for 3550(white).
Also i bought edgtec blank dvd media for 23.Is it good?
 
Benq has a pathetic after sales service in India, now only if Samsung drives would improve their products to match their services. Any possibilites for a reasonable SATA writer in future, I am running short of IDE devices
 
Hey u guys who already have benq 1640,i dunno whether this is a problem or not,but after inserting cd or a dvd into 1640,the yellow light on the writer is constantly on,is this normal.
