Ok guys, so as some of you already know that I have bought a Samsung Bordeaux TV yesterday. So I have been doing some research and looking at some options as to how to take the TV out from my PC (ATI 1900GT) to my TV. There are two options for me, one is a DVI to HDMI adapter/cable for 2k bucks or second option is component cable. Now I have read that DVI-HDMI is all digital as opposed to component out. However my question is for someone who has viewed both component and dvi-hdmi out connections, and whats the difference in image quality. I am very happy with component quality, but want to know if their will be say 20% improvement over this singal on Dvi-HDMI and if the investment of 2k for HDMI-DVI adapter is worth it..... Please let me know. Also, where can I source good quality component cables in Delhi? How much would 10ft cable cost me?
Thanks for your help in advance.

I thought we pretty well covered up that discussion in that very thread only. Was there a point opening a new Thread ?????

anyway

No, there isn't a significant improvement u'll see, but if ur a digital freak, HDMI being digital gives more peace of mind in any geometry disorders/ flicker/ color distortion that may occur. But the cost of good cable is around 2500 for a 2mtr which is a concern. Be careful not to buy a shitty cable for Digital. out, u will end up with bad colors & sharpness

The difference will depend on the TV and the source. The source is one of the best you can get in this case. TV I have no clue.... You do not get 10ft long component cables... the longest I've seen is 1.5m beyond which signal degradation occurs.

DVI vs. HDMI vs. Component Video -- Which is Better?

Analog component video is an extremely robust signal type; we have had our customers run analog component, without any need for boosters, relays or other special equipment, up to 200 feet without any signal quality issues at all. However, at long lengths, cable quality can be a consideration--in particular, impedance needs to be strictly controlled to a tight tolerance (ideally, 75 +/- 1.5 ohms) to prevent problems with signal reflection which can cause ghosting or ringing.

I read the above on some website. So is it not possible to have component for 10 ft.... reason I say is caz my PC is 10 ft away from my TV.

I have 3 Custom fabricated cables 7mtrs each running under the floor from my PC to my TV. Same quality cables goto one of my stereo AMPS for sound. all excellent cables. Just check the cable u use is 75OHM & not the cheapo RCA type's u get in loose bundles. But a 10ft x3 good cable will cost u not less than 200 a meter so around 1800/- approx for ur installation.
best bet will be if u know some pro Cable wala who provide cables to DJs & other pro equipment, they may give some good cables with as low as 30/- a meter. won't be technically sound on paper but Id u don't get any banding/flicker on ur TV u can live with them.

I had a similar problem when i tried connecting my 42" plasma with my x1650pro. I tried all hdmi, component and s-video. But to my surprize, the connectivity using vga dvi convertor on gpu and normal vga cable(using pc mode on samsung) was giving best image quality. Also look for hardware acc. on dvd software that u are using. the avivo engine on ati cards makes a lot of difference during dvd playback.
