I have bought a viewsonic 19 lcd.however i discovered it does not have DVI:( ..I want to know some practical experience of using DVI vs VGA??does DVI really improve the graphics,,specially in playing games????

I completely agree, A week back i switched to DVI on my Dell 22" lcd and seen lot of improvement.

Let me give you an example, I use internal TV tuner to watch TV on LCD. As you know TV signal has low resolution. When i switch to fullscreen while watching TV, it is crap on VGA. But on DVI, fullscreen appear much more sharper than VGA.

I should say if you have DVI, then you should switch to it. I guess, you dont really have an option.

Edit: I don't play games, so can't actually comment on it. But you will definitely notice the difference when you play low resolution video in full screen.

DVI is digital Video and VGA is Analog. And sure u will get a better picture through DVI as its better & faster than VGA. DVI has a bandwidth of [Single] 3.7 Gbit/s [Dual] 7.4 Gbit/s or more.

absolutely, you might not notice the difference. You'll notice the difference only if you put a DVI connected and VGA connected monitor side by side. even then , it is slight

hey buddyy..frankly i does not care of the THEORY..those my EYE can detect the difference> thats what I care only

I cant find much difference when I use VGA and DVI on my 2407...Maybe better text, but then when u use cleartype thats taken care of with VGA...

That might be theoretical but i don't think u know what analog & digital is and why DVI is replacing VGA. I wont waste my time telling u that, as it seems u are happy by just viewing & i don't think its going to hurts anyone around.

thanks for sharing ur practical experience...i have done lil googling on this..what I find that..DVI is good and noticble for HD only(monitors started from 22")..well I will wait for my next upgrade (may be HDMI next time)

Hmm, never tried watching TV on monitor, so cant comment...But for general desktop use and gaming I doubt if it really makes a lot of difference...

Dat's right. The difference is not noticeable when it's used on a general 17" LCD. When u move up the screen size u will find VGA a little less sharper. Moreover u must have good media like HD or Bluray to feel the improvement, not with those Xvid videos dat keep circulating.:ohyeah:

I have got some theory from googling on it..and come to know that DVI is good for HD(22" monitor atleast)..also it gives better color for those are in high quality digital picture artist(only they can detect the difference)..if u have anythng more,,thn please elaborate..u r most welcomed buddy
Chilll:hap2:
( dont take comment personallyy)

ok..nice addition 2 my knowledge base:ohyeah:

ive worked on 22" LCD connected side by side with DVI and VGA...

THe display with DVI is more sharper for sure and there is a slightly better color reproduction also, that is noticeable only if monitors are side by side...

Well..its a fact that DVI gives slightly sharper and better colors than a VGA.
But the difference is hardly noticable to a general user.

On a biggerscreen, it makes more than a noticeable difference...
When I switched from VGA to DVI on a 32" TV, the difference was highly perceptible...
In the case of a 17", it is nearly non-noticeable

I've run a 24" side by side DVI VS VGA and there's a difference in sharpness and clarity probably due to the improved bandwidth I don't know. I was watching 1080p content and we had a 1440p clip to test.

The difference in sharpness is particularly noticeable in fast action scenes especially when you pause the picture and study the scene. But when you've not got a reference DVI at the side its very difficult to spot the difference.

Even games look a little sharper IMO. But once again they have to be side by side and fed by a quadro type card which has identical quality on primary and secondary DVI connects.

^^right s'czar x2

1. The difference is perceived only when you play HD/Blue-Ray content which require high bandwidth that VGA port can not handle.

2. DVI (and HDMI) ports were introduced to allow embedding of HD media content with DRM and encryption technologies which requires more signalling lines than VGA port. VGA port will only allow normal unencrypted video signal.

One thing i forgot to mention is that my motherboard is MSI K9AGM3 (690G) with HDMI, so I am using HDMI to DVI adapter to connect to my dell 22".
