DICE is offering free download of Battlefield 1942 to celebrate 10 years of battlefield franchise and 2 million members of Battlefield 3 Premium Milestone.
The game is available for free download through EA's Origin service. The download includes just the base game without any expansions.
"When we launched Battlefield 1942 ten years ago, we had lofty ambitions to create a first-person shooter that would push the boundaries of innovation, creativity and design. We evolved the FPS gameplay formula by introducing the world to all-out warfare via land, air and sea," said DICE boss Karl Magnus Troedsson.
"We wanted to thank our fans who have supported us throughout the years by restoring Battlefield 1942 for a digital re-release and give everyone a chance to play the game that started it all."
EA has said that Battlefield 3 has over 5.2 million active members per month.
