This is from the Origin EULA (End User License Agreement)

"You agree that EA may collect, use, store and transmit technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address), operating system, Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware, that may be gathered periodically to facilitate the provision of software updates, dynamically served content, product support and other services to you, including online services," the agreement reads. "EA may also use this information combined with personal information for marketing purposes and to improve our products and services. We may also share that data with our third party service providers in a form that does not personally identify you. IF YOU DO NOT WANT EA TO COLLECT, USE, STORE, TRANSMIT OR DISPLAY THE DATA DESCRIBED IN THIS SECTION, PLEASE DO NOT INSTALL OR USE THE APPLICATION."

What is EA upto? Will this affect the sales of BF3?

EA's Origin Sends Personal Data to Third Parties

^Will it affect sales?.. not one bit.

People will not care as long as something bad actually happens to them. :)

that would really scuk if any body is scanning our pc and eating/slowing the bandwidth which is first only slow :(

Block all its outgoing port in firewall (considering the exe is not same as game exe and that does not need constant internet connection)

No worry for people playing pirated games here. Hacked exe comes server check patched and so no worries of anybody INTRUDER scanning our machine or the game itself.:bleh:

^^For battlefield series this matters as BF is most enjoyable or to be precise only enjoyable in multilayer mode only.

^^ Just shows where EA is really becoming an ostrich and burying it's head into the ground, blaming the community which feeds it, they should seriously learn something from CD Projeckt RED removing the DRM will actually boost sales and make the community sympathize with you when your publisher will threaten to sue you [Namco being high minded gits that they are].

Origin is a new software, they'll learn from their mistakes. Give them some time.

And to think of it, even NOW steam is super buggy. And origin has just been launched!

^^ I still remember how cheerful it was to play Assassin's Creed II when it released, and that was not half the story [server DoS attacks, validation issues]. All these giant titles are becoming extremely irritating to enjoy fully.

I'm against piracy, but target the PIRATES not that guy who bought the original disk.

Oh, for that matter even the Witcher 2 DRM was buggy, felt glad when they kept their word and removed it with Patch 1.1.

The non-personally identifiable information that EA collects includes technical and related information that identifies your computer (including the Internet Protocol Address) and operating system, as well as information about your Application usage (including but not limited to successful installation and/or removal), software, software usage and peripheral hardware.

This is the part I have a problem with. Why should it want my ip address? In effect it is basically bypassing the ISP to gather network related data. Tomorrow if MPIAA-RIAA makes a deal with EA to share all the ip's which have large collection of MP3's, then what?

Well yes, but they usually do not know what is stored in the hard drive of that ip :) Anyways, I know I will be buying BF3, but I might no longer buy other single player games on Origin.

EA updates the Terms and Conditions, says Origin is not spyware

Publisher Electronic Arts has spoken out against allegations from German gamers – and the respected newspaper Spiegel – that its Origin online service is “spying” on consumers.

Spiegel has highlighted the fact that some components of Origin’s licence agreement could potentially violate German law, while gamers are upset following the posting of images that reportedly show Origin tapping into other programs installed on your PC.

This led to two major German retailers allowing PC gamers to return the recently-released Battlefield 3, even if the game’s CD key had been used.

In response to this, EA has issued a statement, which says “We have updated the End User licence Agreement of Origin, in the interests of our players to create more clarity. Origin is not spyware. Neither do we use nor install spyware on the PCs of users.”

“We do not have access to information such as pictures, documents or personal data, which have nothing to do with the execution of the Origin program on the system of the player, neither will they be collected by us.”

“EA takes the privacy of its users very seriously. We have taken every precaution to protect the personal and anonymous user data collected.”
