Guys i normally use my inears(nuforce ne-6) for max. 45-60 mins everyday as well as sometimes for 2 hours when i watch movies on my ipod. I always keep abt 60% volume.

Now, the problem is i am having aches in my ears sometimes for just 2-3 seconds which i wasn't experiencing earlier. I want to know are my iems responsible for that pain?? And if its so, what should i do??

re: Ear aches from IEMs?

Stop using it for a week or two and check if the earphones are causing the pain . Also please do check with an ENT :).

Do you by any chance sleep with the earphones plugged in ?

re: Ear aches from IEMs?

I dont use the iem for this sort of a situation exactly.

I understand that the iem do give you the noise cancellation, the thump, the fidelity yada yada yada.. but at what cost..?

I am currently using the humble set up of my regular earphones with my comp+ jogging session, and make it a point not to use any enhancement via s/w to boost the volume level.

Do get your ear wax build up checked and ofc a professional will give you the full check up as well. So do visit the ENT asap.

re: Ear aches from IEMs?

You should go to an ENT specialist and get your ears checked.

I think this is normal due to IEM's so you should not get worried and if you feel that you are experiencing lack of hearing then visit the doctor above.

Make sure the size of those ear tips fits your ears properly. Prolonged usage of wrong sized tips for the ear can cause massive pain.

And also do what others have suggested. If the pain goes away then just get new earphones and never use these ones again.

Take Care

Its not normal with IEMs to have any sort of pain in the ears . They are usually lot more comfortable than even traditional earphones if used properly within the volume limits. Ive been using them for 4-5 years now and there was a time when average daily usage would be close to 4-7 hrs as well but never encountered any such pain other than 1-2 really ill fitting IEMs. Now the usage has drastically gone down to 30-40 mins max due to headphones :P

I was using M2's with size L silicon tips and that caused me ear ache, and then I changed to medium size silicon tips and now everything is absolutely fine. Are u using size L silicone tips?

now ear ache.. it makes me understand that it is a physical pain.

this is not due to 'hearing' music for extended period but due to 'wearing' IEMs for extendes periods. so in that case try changing the tips and if that doesn't solve the issue try out different IEMs.

Regarding pain from IEM :

It can be due to many facts,

Firstly : Size of the IEM ear tip, if your IEM tip is oversized compared to your ear size, it will cause mild to severe pain, so make sure you dont have a large tip.

Secondly : The material of the IEM, usually now a days there are many good foam, silicon tips available which are non toxic but still you may feel allergic to some material and it may cause irritation and pain.

Thirdly : duration, continuous long term usage is hampering with the normal physiological work of the ear canal so it will start hurting, so you should take rest of about 15-30 minutes after 2 hours continuous wearing of IEM tips.

Forthly : primary or secondary infection of ears (it is pathological and you need to get it checked properly, internet is not the proper place to diagnose and treat it) Why I put it fourth is because above three causes are more frequent and more likely.

Lastly even if you get the best tips for you IEM sometimes your ear shape is such that it may not fit properly, then get custom moulded tips made from good audiologists.

Feel free to ask any more queries :)

On a similar topic!
I have been using my pl-21 for almost an year now with average use of 4hrs per day!
Till last week everything was fine, but then my iem is not fitting in the right ear properly anymore :S the left is perfect ! Since the foam was used a lot i exchanged it with new , same size foam ear tips! But it still persisted
So i thought there must be some inflammation due to prolonged use , so stopped music for 2 days ( it was torture :@)
then tried the 3rd day, Same issue!
and nowadays its on and off alternate days ! Some days , it fits and some days no!
One thing to note is that , there is absolutely no pain :O
