Easy to use Digital Camera with Optical Zoom > 10x

I am completely out of touch with the Digital Camera front, so need suggestions for a good Digital Camera with optical zoom >= 10x.

This will be a Christmas gift for my Mom, so ease of use is a primary concern. Point and shoot mode is a must even if its going to be a semi professional SLR camera. Don't really care about the sensor resolution as long as its going to be > 5MP. The key requirements are optical zoom and ease of use.

Budget is 15~20k (I can spend a bit more, but mom wouldn't like it :P)

Also would like to know whether there's any place in Hyderabad where I can check out and get the suggested cameras or if I have to get them online, a link to the same would be appreciated. :)

Panasonic FZ28, Canon SX10 or Canon SX1. They are fairly easy to use, offer good video recording capabilities and optical zoom. The SX1 has 720p HD recording too.

Panasonic FZ series.. probably the FZ8, which would by itself be an overkill for someone who is more interested in P & S.. You would get it for around 10 to 11K..

panasonic tz5

The Panasonic DMC TZ5 is small and compact when taking into account the fact it has a 10x optical zoom lens. Although this is not a pocket sized camera it is much smaller than the typical super zoom camera.

Sells for 14k AFAIK

TZ5 looks cool and compact.. would make an ideal phone for someone who's particular about the looks (read "ladies" :P )..

sony H10 is good very easy to operate, interface etc.the sony h50 has a tiltable lcd ,it also has infra red night vision shooting its menus are inspired by playstation menus.

h50 is also very good but i guess that would stretch his budget a small bit :)

I personally owe a h10 and I am super-impressed with its ease of use, quick response time and good battery life, and its quite small too, just a lil big than a P&S :)

very reliable, have purchased 4-5 cameras from them
edit - these are the same smart.in from ebay na? :S

Yeah, the same. They seem to source directly from the manufacturers and claim 1 year vendor warranty. Any idea on the after sales service part? Also can we claim direct manufacturer warranty in India for any items purchased form this vendor?

but he did say he has a budget of 20k while the H50 costs MRP 19990,should be a bit cheaper in the street.the only problem is the sony memory stick format
BTW the prices should be cheaper by 4% with yesterdays VAT cut.

I have checked out the prices and the models available online and my choice seems to boil down to the following

eBay India: Nikon Coolpix P80 - 10MP & 18X Optical Zoom (item 280291005450 end time 09-Dec-2008 17:49:22 IST)

eBay India: Panasonic Lumix FZ28 10.1 MP 18x optical zoom (item 280291002887 end time 09-Dec-2008 17:33:41 IST)

Sony Cybershot DSC H50 Digital Camera - 9 Megapixel

Panasonic Lumix FZ28 seems to be the most attractive of the three considering the features offered for the price.
