Easy to use Digital Camera with Optical Zoom > 10x

^well of the cameras u have mentioned the sony is by far the easiest to operate and understand and very good performance thanks to its carl zeiss lens .
do note when taking movies the panasonic FZ28 cannot zoom it will be fixed in one position which trust me can realy be annoying.

anyway here is a side by side comparision of the 2 cameras.
Face to Face : cameras, printers, ... - DigitalVersus
from what i can see sony is the better of the two.

I have checked out the prices and the models available online and my choice seems to boil down to the following

eBay India: Nikon Coolpix P80 - 10MP & 18X Optical Zoom (item 280291005450 end time 09-Dec-2008 17:49:22 IST)

eBay India: Panasonic Lumix FZ28 10.1 MP 18x optical zoom (item 280291002887 end time 09-Dec-2008 17:33:41 IST)

Sony Cybershot DSC H50 Digital Camera - 9 Megapixel

Panasonic Lumix FZ28 seems to be the most attractive of the three considering the features offered for the price.

I would say ad the TZ5/TZ15 to the list :P All those cameras you are looking at are pretty bulky semi-pro ones. :P

What you want is a compact with good zoom and ease of use AKA P&S types. I have been looking for something similar.

The TZ5/TZ15 (15 in india / 5 in US) has great reviews. MRP: ~16-17k with 2 yrs warranty. Much cheaper from US of course :)

Well, thing is that most of these point and shoot type cameras have zoom hovering around 10~12x. Though I said 10x, I would much rather have the 15x+ zoom and some other features offered by the semi-pro cameras.

Of course ease of use is a must for my mom, but its not like this is going to be the first camera she is going to use. To make things clear, This is going to be 4th camera (and 2nd digital camera) in the house. Already have a decent digital camera for regular photography. My mom's keenly interested in Macro photography and photographing distant sceneries though she lacks the know how. This is going to be a camera for her to experiment with in that direction.

even I suggested tz5 as its not as bulky as other cameras mentioned here, plus u get hd video recording capablities too.

Does anyone have an idea on the Kodak Easyshare Z1015 IS ?

Specs look very good (10.3MP Sensor, 15x Optical Zoom, RAW capture, HD Video recording) and does not cost a bomb.

panasonic tz5

The Panasonic DMC TZ5 is small and compact when taking into account the fact it has a 10x optical zoom lens. Although this is not a pocket sized camera it is much smaller than the typical super zoom camera.

panasonic-dmc-tz5.cfm

Sells for 14k AFAIK

Wrong!

TZ5(TZ15)sells for 16.8k(after discount)!!!

Actual price :17.9k ....

And the TZ4(TZ11) sells for 14.9k...
