Everyone meet the ECS PF88. Out of the box, it's a typical LGA775 socket Intel motherboard featuring the SiS656 chipset; but with the addition of a proprietary daughtercard, the AS9, this once Intel motherboard will now support Socket 939 AMD64 processors.
When the AS9 is installed, the LGA775 socket is disabled. Because the SiS656 (Intel) chipset supports DDR2 and the SiS756 (AMD) supports DDR, the AS9 daughterboard features its own two DIMM slots.
The motherboard features 2 PCIe 16x slots, 1 PCIe 1x slot, three PCI slots, 2x IEEE 1394 Firewire ports, USB 2.0 and 4 SATA ports.
ECS says they have plans to add more daughterboards to the market: the A4S which will support the AMD Turion 64 and the I9S which will support the Intel Pentium-M.
So how big of a hole will this burn in your wallet? Currently, the PF88 is retailing $136 in Japan while the AS9 daughterboard will cost you an extra $68.
It's an interesting concept, but for $200, I think it's more of a novelty than anything else.
