Laptops EEEPC 4G or ACER ASPIRE ONE

So I can get a Acer Aspire one for about 16-17K (Linux version with 8GB SSD) I need a download rig and something to use wifi around the house.

Is it worth it?

@nukeu: the 701 has a vga cam.

@others: the acer Aspire One Linux version in India is different from the worldwide version. This is basically the same specs as the Xp version except for the OS. retails @ 20k. No SSD but the HDD and RAM are the same. so yay........

Can anyone plz tell me exactly where can i get the EEE PC 701 4G for Rs.12-14k?
The lowest price that i have seen for the 4gb version till now is Rs.15.8k in Rediff shopping.
Are u confusing between the 2G and 4G models?

They can heat up a lot if used 27x7 but if u are using it only for downloading u should underclock the processor. It would increase the battery life and decrease the heat generated.

Also, to keep the noise levels down, Asus has limited the speed of the fan. So to keep temp down, just increase the fan speed to 70-80% or even 100%. It would keep things cool and would increase the life of the components.

The tool required for these is easily available in EEEuser forum(I think the application is called eeepctl). Just do a google search to find the forum.

Well, if you have read all these posts, get one :P

For good portability. nothing below 50k can beat these. I have bought a couple for friends and they work great :)

^^ but if Asus eeepc 1000h is available for 20K dont you think its beats acer at the price point?

Yes it does. I was referring to netbooks in general :)

The Asus scores for the bigger battery offering more runtime.

HOWEVER, please note that the 20-21k pricing was a special offer by Asus to dealers. 2 units ONLY per dealer at a discount (in the form of a credit note which they ll get reimbursed after 90 days or something :P). Official pricing is still 24k n up :( Sucks, i know :P

I did manage to pick up one for a friend for 20.9k :D Expect a review soon :)

What concerns me , is the quality of Web cams on there they are 0.3 MP. is that good. And of course the battery life ..I am 80% sure i would be buying one of these 2 .. just not able to pull it off yet .. I need to get into that shopping mode !!

What is the present price of Acer Aspire one , 160GB version .. do i have to buy the OS along or can i get one w/o it.
