I own an 2007 model Swift VXI (petrol) . Since 2007 i have been getting my engine oil changed from the comapny (dont know the density and type). But from past few months i am keen towards motul's engine oil. So, this time i am planning to get my car refilled with the motul or some other quality engine oil manufacturer other than maruti. I am on my 28000 km mark and got my last service with spark plug and all replaced at 20000 kms. Please suggest me the best engine oil as well as the density, synthetic or semi synthetic all the details with the company i should go for. I am a bit biased towards motul because i refilled my bike this year with same and i am quite happy with its performance.

P.S. Do bike and car's engine oils same if their densities are same?

Mobil1 or shell helix full synthetic 15W40-5W40

No. While a car has different oils for engine and transmission, Motorcycle oil is used to lubricate engine, clutch and gearbox.
Car oils have friction modifiers which would cause clutch slippage if used in motorcycles And potentially damage the engine.

Please let me know the density as well. Got confused with the two mentioned.i live near delhi(for climate reference).
I am going for shell.

5W40, is suitable for the newer generation K-series engines. The older Swift (before 2010 manufac.) has 1.3 L engine, and I guess the recommended grade for them as per owners manual is 20W40. I welcome to be corrected.

@OP, in 7 years the running of your vehicle is only 28k kms. For this low running putting the synthetic oil is overkill IMHO. Synthetic oils last for longer kms, but due to aging effect you have to change them as well albeit at a slightly higher interval than mineral one's.

Let me tell you about this amazing oil i'm using. Castrol Edge. Using it in my Diesel toyota and petrol hondas....nothing happens to this oil, i mean nothing. if price is not a factor, this is the best oil imho... contrary to bigbyte, i suggest fully synthetic as you will not change oil for a long time (many years) so chemical reactions occurring in mineral oils can be avoided ..

Bike and Car oils are not the same. Bike oils come with a JASO MA rating and car oils cannot be used in bikes for the reasons specified by hgps. if you use car oils in bikes it causes clutch slippage and potentially damage the engine and vise varsa. Coming to the mineral and synthetic oils, the syntheteic oils dont tend to loose their viscosity hence work for longer kilometers where as the mineral oils loose their viscosity and become thinner over time causing engine damage. the rating specifies viscosities at two different temps 20w in 20w40 is the winter viscosity and 40 is the viscosity at a certain temp. for example if you take bajaj pulsar 200 old model, you were required to use 20w50 because the engine used to run hotter all the time. on the other hand 5w40 will help you start the car in winter cold starts where the oil tends to become thick due to extreme cold. but usually you should be prefer 5w40 over 20w40. Because of all the above reasons sythetic oils are costly compared to mineral.
