English TV series discussion

True blood has a lot of drama, I seriously suggest you give Burn notice a try, I simply loved it, am sick of the drama deluge in the other series etc...

Also Eureka, one of the better sci-fi on currently. Oh and ofcourse, hustle which is mentioned a few post above.

Isnt there something thats as exciting as Lost, 24, PB thats drawn out over several episodes and remains mystifying? The premise of some of the suggested series dont seem like they can match upto those. I may be wrong though... I dont mind drama if its gripping. For ex Jericho was based on Nuclear Catastrophe but had lots of drama and was awesome.

Burn notice, main plot stretches across season, but each episode has a seperate sub-plot. The action is nice, and the storyline and acting are top notch, no over the top drama etc... Eureka again has brilliant episodic storylines, with some light comedy, and really good acting.

If you liked 24, burn notice is kinda like a more geeky/intelligent version of it...

My tv show list used to be modest when I was on dialup like cable.. moving to adsl finally allowed me to get what I want so here's my list of shows I watch very regularly.
  • House MD
  • Heroes
  • Supernatural
  • Numb3rs
  • Prison Break (RIP. You will be missed. It was time to end it cause it was being pulled along a lot.. S01 shall forever be the best season I've seen)
  • Lost (God damn half seasons.. till 2012)
  • Smallville
  • One Tree Hill (Not long before its time to kill it as well)
  • The Big Bang Theory aka TBBT
  • How I Met Your Mother aka HIMYM
  • True Blood
  • Ghost Whisperer
  • Greek (Added recently since my brother downloads them)
  • Scrubs (RIP)
  • Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles aka TSCC (RIP)
  • Kyle XY
  • Eureka
  • Dexter

There's probably a few more but these are all I can think of right now.

I've seen season 1 of 24. I really should get season packs of all the others so I can watch them. I missed the first couple of eps on tele and then couldn't catch up.

Based on the list above, if you guys have any suggestions, feel free to drop in a line. I'm always open for suggestions ;) (Yeah, I read Burn Notice a couple of times just above my post.. will check that out)

check out defying gravity, i started watching it yesterday. just seen 2 episodes. its nice so far, although a little slow. its about these astronauts who are on a 6yr mission of the solar system. its got the flashbacks like lost, showing the past of some characters. so far its a decent show.

better off ted is quite decent only because of the 2 scientists.

rest of the new shows arent that good.

its always sunny & office have resumed today.

In that case, I think you will find True Blood pretty interesting. After LOST, PB and Dexter, True blood is the only show that I've been really hooked to. Plus watching 2 seasons on the trot is surely gonna be a great experience. Its a really cool show which is very high on entertainment quotient. It has everything really; Sex, blood, skin show, vampires, comedy and some pretty cool fights. Highly Recommended.
Another show which I will highly recommend is Sons of Anarchy. Although it is more of a drama show, it has a little of everything. It is a blend of Sopranos and The Shield. Never gets boring.

^I suggest you download the pilot of both the shows and watch the one which you like better.

A few questions for you:
1. Have you seen both "True Blood" and "Burn Notice" ?
2. If yes, which series do you prefer?

Thanks :D

better off ted is quite decent only because of the 2 scientists.

I found it a lil boring. Dark blue one of the new shows is ok, as I was saying I am tired with all the drama in tv series :P

BTW how is the new degrassi high ? (I meant the 2001 version) cant seem to find the 1980's version etc. Also any series like Boston public, loved that series...

Edit Vij its a personal choice, true blood is good too, but I didnt like it, cause I dont have the patience to watch 1.5 hr drama shows anymore :P If you have time you can watch both..

Also the IMDB of tv series www.tv.com has given burn notice a higher rating.

@vij; you should check out the British series Being Human too.

I loved Better off Ted, especially because of Portia Rossi. Also it seems that I was probably the only one here who didn't find the final True Blood epsiode to be terrible. Br. Stackhouse and Dr. Deputy are easily the best characters of the season (not including Lafayette who is totally on another level). Its obvious who will be the archvillian[ess] for the next season though.

Started watching Generation Kill... it starts off a bit slow but is better than even The Hurt Locker as far as Iraq war stuff is concerned. Some really funny lines and great characters. Definitely worth checking out if you've not done so yet.

@aces; Degrassi series is totally different from typical teen series since it deals with more serious issues than any other from the genre. This might both make it more boring or better depending on what you expect of it. To put things in perspective comparing something like Boy Meets World with Degrassi Junior High is like comparing CSI with The Wire and from what I can tell from the reviews they've kept things going with the two sequels too.

I am up to date with True Blood and I have seen the first 4-5 episodes of Burn Notice. I didn't find burn notice exceptional. Its just another spy show of which I am sick and tired of watching. More importantly I didn't get hooked on to it like I did to True Blood. The same happened with The Mentalist, it is a good show but I lost interest mid way.

Given your choice of shows, I think you will find True Blood more appealing. This why I asked you to download the pilots if both the shows. Watch the one which you find more interesting.

Sorry for the bad news mate .. Defying Gravity has been Cancelled !

it's not officially cancelled yet, although that is likely to happen considering it's ratings sucked. and for good reason too, the show was way too slow... they aired 8 episodes and the story barely inched forwards.

what really sucks is how the 8th episode ended... just when we were finally about to find out what's on the ship, it's over. they have filmed a few more episodes but who knows when or even if they will air again. gotta wait for the official dvd release to catch up if they don't.

dark blue is another show that didn't live up to it's promise. i think the biggest problem were totally one dimensional characters... every episode just kept hammering in the same point over and over again. they didn't even get any good storylines going... they started a few but just left it hanging. in the end, every episode of the show turned out to be virtually identical.

if this show was on network tv, it would have definitely been cancelled. but since it airs on tnt, maybe there's a chance they'll come back for another season next summer. hopefully they can improve their writing then.

Saw the first 2 pre-air episodes of Californication's Season 3. Fantastic start as usual. This show has never had a dull moment till now. Spectacular work by Duchovny.

Also caught up with The Office first episode of Season 6. Again, fully entertaining. But the Jim+Pam+Pam's pregnancy+wedding plan is getting really lame. I wish things were the way they initially had it going on.

Just finished watching The Lost Room, very intriguing series but I was disappointed by the end. It left alot of questions unanswered. If they could have given it a proper conclusion, this would have been a classic. I recommend a watch though.

Has anyone seen "Angel" here? Now that True Blood has ended, I need a new Vampire show to keep me entertained. I am having a hard time deciding between Angel and Buffy.
