Hi,

So, this pc which I am using was working fine but suddenly firefox went full screen and after closing it there was nothing coming up on the screen. Restarted the system and everything seems fine but when I open any app that requires admin rights like say for example cpu-z it gives this error 1073740791

Now the fixes say to run checkdisk etc. via cmd after opening it as an admin but can't open it as admin, getting the same error 1073740791

No virus no nothing as it is only used for browsing and ms office plus windows defender is doing its job.

May be you visited some spam site and an infection tampered security settings of your system. Run malwarebytes and it should fix.


You do have to run
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

after scanning and cleaning.
 
All those above will require Admin privileges and cannot be done. This seems like a malware infection or disk failure to me.

You have to make a boot disk of some Anti-malware program like Kaspersky and scan your PC offline with it using it to boot your PC and not your windows drive.
This would remove the malware if that's the issue but cannot guarantee a fix to already corrupted files of windows if any.

If you're able to clean the malware and boot into windows you can then run the above suggested commands to do an online repair of corrupted windows components. If that doesn't help then you have to try an in-place upgrade/repair of Windows by running setup.exe from Windows ISO.

Lastly, if nothing works then clean windows install is the only way out.

There was a Windows Update, the version is still 19044.1741 after the update but the error has changed to

The link you posted has this follow-up and the poster gave a thumb-up to the second solution, so seems System Recovery and regedit is your only option.

Getting this error while trying to get into the recovery mode from settings>>recovery or from here Control Panel\System and Security\Administrative Tools

No F11 does not open up the same menu. The mobo is asus prime b350 plus.

Add this hdd as a secondary drive? The apps which need admin rights are showing that error, everything else is working fine. If this drive is added as a secondary drive then how can we give admin rights to the softwares installed in this drive? Is there any other way out? Because I think for this troubleshoot, I will have to spend money on an sata enclosure.

On laptops manufacturers keep using their own shortcuts. May be it is worth a try to go to Safe Mode first using F8 and then try the different options to see if it has any impact on the admin rights and if you can boot to recovery from there.

That was the solution to your problem not being able to scan the disk because you don't have admin rights. If you don't have another PC with sata slots, you could boot into your main machine using windows installation pen drive and go into the repair options.

Alternately, you can call the Microsoft and tell them the error number. They should be able to tell you what's wrong. These numbers aren't randomly generated. These are saved by programmers in the code itself to locate where or why the things are going wrong.

In the end, I think it's the employer's job to tackle such problems. Have you not asked them yet?

I think BIOS hotkey is disabled by the Fast boot options. In that case you need to disable the fast boot from the windows (using mobo utility) or by simply resetting the BIO.

What is MS's support number where we can call them? This OS is genuine btw.
Will try to boot via safe mode and will get back.
I can get in the BIOS by pressing the del key but not able to invoke the system recovery option via which we can open cmd as an admin.
I right clicked on c drive>>tools>> ran an error check scan from there and it came out to be clean
Now if I right click any app which requires any admin rights, it opens the box where we need to say yes for admin rights just for a millisecond and then closes down.
Found a system restore auto created a week before this issue started but it is giving this error

It may be that your system is in the middle of a ransomware attack, in which case it's probably a bad idea to connect the drive to another computer. The only way out is a clean install and restore from back up. Nothing can be salvaged from drive infected with ransomware.

More likely though, it's an incomplete windows update. Administrator rights are locked out during updates for system security and file integrity reasons. Weird but it's the part of the new Microsoft. Check to see if any more updates are available/pending. Maybe uninstall a recent major update and reinstall it through the Settings app.

Yeah, seems to be Windows update related, as there are quite a few occurrences of this lately. Try the steps in the page below or else just do a reset as there is no point in continuing with a broken installation.

No chance of ransomware, I am 100% sure about it.

No more updates, it is already updated to the latest version. I will try uninstalling the last updates if it lets me to and will get back. I remember back in the xp days, whenever this kinda issue popped up, all one had to do was insert xp disk and click on repair and voila it would clear errors like these without formatting. Can the same be done here?

You can try but I somehow feel, the installation itself is going to ask you for the admin password before it can repair or upgrade.

Check the MS website. I have never called them because I never bought support with ms products. Not all genuine MS products come with phone support. If its a laptop or prebuilt computer then MS doesn't provide support as that responsibility goes to the laptop maker.

In a case where user doesn't have admin rights, the support is always provided by the employer. If an employer can't provide the support for the computers then it has no rights to take away admin rights.

There is no admin password set on this pc. I can't see a repair option when booted via win 10 iso in a pd :(

Can't find their support number anywhere, only scammer numbers.
Bhai this pc is used only for making projects. No games no apps nothing, just google+wiki for finding info and then ms word for the rest. There is no employer or admin, it is being used by a self employed person. No one took away any admin rights, maybe MS update or something did.

Wait then why are you using a standard account (it's limited) on windows 10? This account is only meant for kids, guests or employees.

You should login into administrator account first and then scan the disk. All computers have at least one admin account.
