Error while copying data from DVD

Hi

I am facing the problem, Whenever i start copying data from any DVD, the copying just freezes and it shows as not responding although the DVD keeps spinning.Sometimes i am just lucky if it doesnt happen.

I am running Windows vista home premium on an ASUS N80VN

It just keeps spinning, and the windows explorer stops responding so i had to close it....

Is the dvd damaged? does it work fine in another drive?

If not use DVD Data Rescue

It has helped me many a times recover important files from damaged disc's.

Check the loose power cable/or IDE/sata cable

If the DVD writer reads other DVD then the above problem is ruled out, in that case the DVD itself may be the problem.

It happens almost for all the dvds....i haven't thought about it being an hardware problem...will wait for a week until i goto the service center

That might be good news as it indicates a hardware fault rather than a DVD fault.

Is it ur 1st computer, have u never faced such problems with dvds?

This is a clear indication that the DVD writer is gone, time to replace it.

Just wondering what made u think its the operating system problem, its the hardware problem as its doing with all dvds.

Naah its my 5th or 6th computer ....i still dont believe its the dvd roms problem coz i noticed that the windows explorer shows not responding but the data is being copied but i cannot see how much as the copying dialog box freezes and shows not responding.....and my laptop is quite new....
