Sorry to hear this....i really can understand your feelings

I am using the same card (Leadtek) and it happily crunches all latest games thrown at it without any probs on full effects.

So, certainly not a problem with the 8800GTS 640 build

So, it could be some driver or OS issue

Always, before u worry about your graphic card, first do all the below checks

Download Kasperksy Antivirus and run full system scan (after updated virus definitions latest) before u format
backup all imp data and do a full format after cleaning partitions

Install XP Pro with the latest MB drivers and Forceware stable from Nvidia site

Install Rivatuner 2.02 from Guru3d and set fan duty cycle to 90%

Since its EVGA, i dont think, its got warranty in India

So, Hope for the best

I suggest u to replace ur PSU if u r using Cooler Master extreme power 600 as mentioned in ur sig. That PSU is not good enough to be used with 8800GTS ( 640 mb).CM will effect ur card in long run and soon u will find random errors and hang problems in ur system.

Thats right, but for his slowdown issue, i dont think it a PSU problem

If PSU is not good or gives sufficient power, crashes will happen and sometimes, wont boot up at all,

Best to go for Cooler Master 600W (with 36A combined on dual 12V rail)

will handle this card pretty well

Sometimes lag comes couz of bad PSU also couz when card is at peak load it does get the power properly and card is not able to perform at its best.
And I strongly suggest u to change ur PSU.Buy something really good unless u want to screw up ur card.

how to do that...
IN games this options were not there :D

plz let me know :P

Right-click on NVIDIA taskbar icon and select control panel. From CP, select "Manage my 3D settings".

Under Anisotropic filtering, select 16x. Anti aliasing select Override Application.... beneath that select "16Q". Done!

aa & af are best if you control them in-game :)

if some games do not support aa or af then set them from the program settings tab :)

dude i think the only thing that was left out from the entire discussion is Vsync some time Vsync tends to eat up around 40 fps

happened with my while playing FEAR on my card when i turned off Vsync the FPS just shot up leaving me with 64 fps totally awsome to play :)

Hey Udit I get some texture shimmering in Oblivion even with 2x AA , read somewhere that setting 'Texture Filtering - negative LOD bias' to clamp would resolve this , but it doesn't seem to help much, what settings are you using ??
