I would have personally preferred it getting launched for around 20k with no plan lock :(

Honestly speaking I don't see this happening. Subsidization of phones will never work in India IMO.
 
I don't like plan locks. The whole point of handsets in India is flexibility. They should have had options and not forced it down any which way.

Friends .. Those of you in India planning for iPhone... THINK TWICE BEFORE MAKING A DECISION... The short comings of iPhone are endless...

No video calling,

no AD2P on the Bluetooth,

CANג€™T share ANY (mp3, images,videos....) files via bluetooth,

can't use as a wireless modem, (you pay ridiculous data charges to activate internet on your phone, but cannot connect it to your PC and browse when you are at home)

no copy and paste,(cannot copy a part of a.... say.... email & send it....have to type it out yourself)

no 3.2 or 5 megapixel camera,(the 2MP camera it carries is worst camera i've ever seen..... photos look like they have come out of a VGA camera)

no video recording with camera,

no front camera,

no flash.

no JAVA support

No physical keyboard (BELIEVE me! this alone is a dealbreaker...touch keyboard as good as it looks...once you use it then only you come to know about the importance of having a hard keypad)

No 3G network yet in India..so why pay for expensive 3G phone if you cant use its 3G services ... so, for India, iPhone 2.0 is no better than its first version

No removable battery. (You cannot change battery. Have to send it to apple outlet.. Come on now!!!!...This is not an iPod. Its a bloody phone. You cannot live without phone for 2-3 days)

No haptic feedback and

cannot send MMS,

canג€™t use as external storage device (16 GB of utter waste..next time you go to your friend's house & find some interesting songs, movies, etc...sorry you cannot connect your '16 GB' phone and share it!!!! Apple apparently has a solution.. " BUY MUSIC & MOVIES FROM iTUNES STORE "..... Give me a break will you APPLE!!!)

no FM radio,

canג€™t use your mp3 files as ringtones,(This is heights man!!!)

cannot insert any other SIM cardג€Â¦.

completely tied to iTunes... Connect to your friend's iTunes & you risk erasing everything on your phone.

list goes on & on & onג€Â¦.

We Indians are used to these features. Most of our phones already have these features. & we cannot do with out them.... i mean can you imagine paying so much for a phone with which you cannot transfer files via bluetooth. what age is this ...STONE AGE???

Some features may be activated by jailbreak.. But why the hell should you risk losing your warranty after paying so much.

And want to add third party softwares??.. YOU HAVE TO BUY THEM FROM iTUNES STORE ONLY!!! . (Shell out more money). Apple is a bloody control freak. Dont surrender your freedom to it.

Its good for american market (who have no idea what mobile freedom/choice is) which is in stone age compared to asian/european markets. When they want to buy a phone, they have to go to network operators and buy only those phones that are available on that network. & stick to that company till their contract expires. You want to change carriers? Not before paying damages, & buying another phone on the other network again.

On the contrary, we in India have so much freedom. We go to handset shops & buy which ever phone we like. Then go to carriers.. checkout the plans & buy SIM.. Dont like the plan or rival carrier came up with a better plan???? EASY .. just remove & replace the SIM.

Apple are trying to IMPOSE THEIR MODEL ON US riding on the hype iPhone has created in the US (yes it was a flop in Europe ..thats why Apple never talks about its sales in Europe).

Dont fall for the subsidized price of iPhone... CHECKOUT THE DATA PLAN ATTACHED TO ITS SIM ..they will recover the cost through ridiculous data plans. Bill might come to around Rs 2500/month.(ATLEAST AMERICANS PAY THAT MUCH)

Let me clear one thing though.. iphone is the best looking phone (its touch interface is nothing like you have ever seen ), & best browsing experience out there no doubt .... (& others are fast catching up..check out the android demo at Google IO 2008).... BUT AFTER A FEW DAYS IT ALL COMES DOWN TO FUNCTIONALITY...

Those of who buy it... You will be most happy for atmost a week... & then, MARK MY WORDS...YOU WILL START REGRETTING IT!!!

My advice...WAIT FOR HTC DREAM!! (powered by android). Still not convinced by then...by all means go for iPhone...

So friends lets spread this info to all our friends and help them in making a wise decision..... & those of you who have bought unlocked versions already please share your experiences with others

I guess it does lack in a lot of departments. For such a premium product, the feature list should at least have a few essentials like a higher resolution camera, and copy paste, etc.

All said and done, people will still line up to buy it.
 
If vodafone's monthly charges are less than 2k per month i am buying it.My company pays me 2k every month for phone charges....and i don't even make any calls so it goes back to them.
 
The data plans is US cost around $30 for the 3g and $20 for the older phones, looking at prices in India 1k+ for data looks realistic. And a deposit will also make sense here! But still the idea of a no contract phone would suck, in Hongkong and itlay they are sold unlocked. So they might be sold unlocked here too. Btw can anyone shed light on the laws here? whether people can sell locked phones or not?
 
I think price is with the Contract with Airtel and Vodafone both....
Flat price will be more than 20k for sure...

I saw there are many iPhone killers coming in Market...

i came across loads of rumours & facts about the 3g ! but still i went ahead and got a normal one a week back .

i am happily using it ..... DEV team has already launched the PWNAGE tool to crack version 2.0.... so im gonna update my iphone to 2.0 soon and will crack it using my frnz MAC lappy and already njoi the apps from the APP STORE !!

Pointless buying the 3g model .... cause god only knws when will the 3g network be available publically ...... and dunno what will the price be $$$ They will decide it after having thousands of meetings with the "TRAI"..

And i dont see any major advancement in the 3g model ... "FASTER INTERNET BROWSING" puff !! lolz ........ INDIA first need faster internet for faster browsing ..... Just like having a faster 200MBPS modem does not double ur 2MBPS BANDWIDTH frienz :P .......

LIVE IN THE PRESENT and 2 be a bit smart think of no more than 1 month future when it comes to TECHNOLOGY ........ cause it really changes fast !!

just go and get an iphone UNLOCKED 1.1.4 it works lika charm :D

The older iphones are scarcely available and quite expensive too.

How much did you pay for it ? Btw, you must be knowing that majority of the people are not too happy with the performance of 2.0! Better wait for 2.0.1 :)

And what are you going to do if your no warranty cracked Phone suddenly decides to go south on you (which has every possibility of happening considering the numerous problems), maybe throw it away in the dust bin, get a new one, unlock it, and what not again???

The older Iphones UNLOCKED with version 1.1.4 are available. get it frm Heera Paana / Alfa.... its not that expensive almost as same as a N98 8GB which was an option for me . i was a hardcore NOKiA user and i still love it see this http://www.techenclave.com/861896-post23.html

I picked mine for 26K UNLOCKED 1.1.4 with all other stuff sealed packed + 2 leather case + extra headphones.

Well i havent come accross any bad reviews about the 2.0 ... but anyways i will still upgrade to 2.0 and try it myself ..... the 2.0 software/Apps actually uses the Iphone Hardware capability to maximum . have u seen the "ipint" App ? if at all it gives me trouble i always have the option of downgrading it :D

I will upgrade to 2.0.1 when it comes out.....

BTW:- The Unlock for the 2.0 is out and can work on windows ... it has some bugs ... so ill wait for the proper crack to come out.

Yea no GPS ... it doesnt matter to me .....BUT the GOOGLE MAPS app in the iphone does work well for me whn i get lost :P

Ahh well u are right but thats the risk u gotta take !! well lemme tell u 1 thing tht u already know Cellphones are tested and retested in various conditions to survive ....... so all we gotta do is to keep our cellphones safe .... and do not mess with its CORE software too much ..... keep the RAM smooth ..... and the CELLPHONE will SMILE forever .............

Even then somehow / anyhow it decides to go south ..... WELL THAT's FATE !
