Hi all,

I've been meaning to ask u guys about your experience with CFL's

1. How many of u have tried it?

2. At what prices & what brands did u buy & your experience with them ?

2a . Indian ones better or Chinese imports?

3. How long did they last?

4. Did u see a drop in your electricity bills (all other things being the same) ? Thnx in advance.

My answers :-

1. I tried it.

2. At Rs. 22/- for 9 watts (didn't look at lumens) . Huaqiang @ Rs. 25/- (6 months) & Leuci @ Rs. 22/- 2 months

3. Have used chinese ones as Indian ones are pricier

4. Most of them lasted for 2-3 months at the most

5. Slightly.

My havell or whatever was bought a year back and is still going strong :P. No issues whatsoever. It comes with a year's warranty anyway in case it dies, it'll be replaced.

Price & other things please. This is Havell's site. Doesn't say anything about pricing though or even about its history other than
It began as a trading concern in 1958 and today is a major manufacturer and supplier of the widest range of low voltage electrical equipment catering to the needs of domestic and industrial market.

Doesn't say whether it's Indian or an MNC. Also its international business says about some group which I don't have any idea. Even ENgNet gives some hints but not enough.

Also considering Orpat Power Saver 8 W (although trying to find coils which give 2700k light). Also unable to find good links to know latest prices for Orpat Power Saver :(

replaced all the bulbs in our house with CFL's around two years back no issues so far ... wouldnt know the difference though... i got my rig at around the same time :D, plus we used em cos we have HUGE power fluctuations around here , and ordinary bulbs just werent enough at one point .We used philips CFL's which are technically chinese , but cost a good amount.

Have used and also currently using a lot.

The brands : never used any chinese one in indian i have used Orpat (this brand carries a bit of luck with it i got two die on me exactly after the one year warranty was over and two are going strong at two years)

Havell : one and half year and still going strong.

Phillips : there were two types of packing indian and imported both are going strong.

Wipro / GE : nice illumination, going strong at eight month.

(all the brands i used have one year no questions replacement warranty if goes bust)

Slight reduction in light bills not much.

I have noticed it that one CFL of equal wattage rating can not replace Tubes yet. And if you are into reading or study then it is little strenous on your eyes due to purplish tinge it give to atmosphere.

Look out for the newer 2700K ones, they're supposed to give more better natural-lighting. Good one there medpal.
