Hi!

I buy loads of gadgets from Croma. Yesterday I bought a Philips product which had 2 years of warranty and cost me 2100rs. I was told on paying 120rs extra would get 2 years of extended warranty which made it 4 years of warranty for the Philips product. the people at the counter gave me a stamped piece of paper which said i got extended warranty. i was told Philips would now service my product for 4 years at their service center.

Today a friend of mine from TE bought a Msi X340 laptop which comes with 2 years of warranty from MSI. he paid about 2000rs more and got 2 years of extended warranty. That's 4 years of warranty for the laptop.

I decided to call up Msi's Dealership and asked them about the extended warranty scheme. They told me Msi India's service center wouldn't service the laptop but it would be Croma who would handle the servicing after the official 2 years of warranty.

I sense something fishy here. Msi flatly refuses to acknowledge the extended warranty but that maybe ignorance on Msi's part about the extended warranty scheme.

Vijay sales or NEXT don't seem to offer extended warranty for the exact same product as Croma does.

Is this extended warranty scheme brand specific?

Does anyone have any idea about who would handle the extended warranty servicing for products bought from Croma?

Do please throw some light on this issue.

It would be Croma's warranty and not the companies warranty. Check the paper which you got for the EW. It should have the terms and conditions.

All extended warranty unless specified are always dealer warranty. All extended warranty's would carry proper extended warranty note / need registration / warranty card etc. if they are from the parent company.

Croma's extended warranty programe is their extended warranty! ie. after company warranty is over and anything has to happen, its their job to fix it!

For example I had extended warranty on my 5800 bought from abroad. The screen got the ghost line issues in 2 months time, but i had no one visit abroad until 3 months back when i got my phone fixed for free and the dealer fixed (new screen) at his expense! so its a risk these people take basically......business strategy!

so if i don't buy something from croma can i get extended warranty for it through croma?

nope! (10 chars)

edit : lets say u get a product for 2k, and the xtra 120 buks u paid.........lets say 100 people got it so croma sells stuff worth 2lac for 2.12 lac , 12,000 rs. more on just 100 pieces of the good sold. now thats not even counting the profit they would make , so make it - their profit + the extended warranty = overall profit.

just counting the xtra charge = 12,000 / 2000 = 6 pieces. So they recover the cost of 6 pieces. Out of 100 , are all 100 going to have issues ? would all harvest it ? would all use it for a period of 4 yrs ? some would be unhappy and not use it , some would loose it , some would upgrade etc etc. some would get back after the company warranty saying they have issues....

same for laptop, same for camera , same for tv, etc etc etc so in the end its a HUGE harvest, like i mentioned earlier, Strategically taken business risk which in the long run would prove profitable for them. so in the end they dont see how many people got back with a product, yes they would on a pointer, statistical view, but overall they would just see how much they colllected and how mch they had to spend. and to top it they have the *terms and conditions of what they would / might cover / not cover.

not to take into account the money they would earn in interest in the product , im the friend who bought the x340 , while i did speak with the regional manager of MSI west yesterday on the subject , he said that this was offered to Croma on a special 1 day only offer for Guddi Padwa, however Croma still continued the offer , anyways ill further on have a word with him on the subject tomorrow and post back

Even I've taken extended warranty for my plasma from Croma (it was part of an offer). Basically after my company warranty expires, Croma would be responsible for any electronic defect in the plasma.

Excellent and well worded explanation.. :)
