using it for over a year now good if there's not too much of movement like on laptop since the usb pin of the device tends to get loose due to the thick hard cable wire.

check other avermedia products too.

I am using the AverMedia Volar AX for the last 2-3 years and its great. AVerMedia AVerTV Global - TV Tuners, Media Player, IPTV and Multimedia Products - AVerTV Volar AX

Not sure whether this model available now. You can go for the one suggested by 'thedeadghost'. It is almost similar to the one I have. Dont go for cheap Intex/Frontech etc products.

i have a Dell LCD monitor lying around and would like to use it as a tv.

it just has a VGA port !!

would like to know what type tuner card should i get! links would be helpful

im using a digital cable tv connection with set top box(not HD)

^ get the tuner which you find in your budget. Just make sure it has composite in and vga out. ex: AverTV box Genie 1.
