Yeah, but the pics you just showed with the HUD don't look anything like this. Not bad at all, but not as glorious as these

Those starting pics do look bad but I felt that was a result of too much brightness on the part of the TV because if you see those later screens(those including rain), it actually looks a lot better.

Let the Sony-FIA deal expire and only then we will know what a nex-gen F1 game on the pc can actually look like.

What makes you think they won't re-sign? :P

Tell you what Udit... If you have the money then get the PS3 over the 8800GTX but there is a catch... Your sole criteria should be games games and games...

No. It should be games and movies, and internet browsing.

Ps3 is THE cheapest top-quality Blu-Ray player in the market right. Standalones only play Blu-Ray movies and they alone cost $1000, and with Linux, player like VLAN will run pretty much any known video format dumped in the Ps3's hardrive.

And Firefox ofcourse :P

Params conveniently chose to ignore the most important word in the dude's statement . After all when you are playing, you'll only have one PS3 not a rack doing the work .

To tell the truth, I ripped a guys post off from another forums. Didn't take a complete read....

See, I have Chaos backing me up here on the rack thing. During game dev they often use software rendering (always I guess). How else can you develop for features that don't exist in hardware yet? I guess he replaced a rack of PCs by a rack of PS3s. Which is why it is obviously more powerful. A cell processor is better than a standard x86 for such purposes. But when you have a standard PC+gfx card versus a single PS3, the difference will not be so high, largely because the Nvidia gfx card on it is now a year old.

True but what's the use?? We don't have any blue ray disks/movie titles in india and it will be long before BR movies become affordable in india( By which time the cost of other blu ray players will come down significantly.) So apart from games,PS3 blu ray player won't do much good anyway. Even for games i don't think they really need 25 GB disks.Seems like sony included those thus to popularise its BR players.Infact it would have been much better if they did what M$ did. They should have provided BR player as an add on rather than forcing customers to buy it when they don't really need it. And on top of that , inorder to justify its inclusion , they have deliberately increased the size of these games to 8GB,12Gb,16 GB etc,etc when there was no need to.
And now this increase in file size would make it difficult to keep the costs down even on those "ahem" games which means many in india will give the PS# a skip until it becomes more affordable.

You're missing the point. Now there's 2 phones, priced almost equally, one's with a ton of features like Camera and Mp3, the other one opens only the phonebook. Which one will you go for?

Now, it will take standalones 1-2 years to go down in prices, not to mention, Ps3 will be going down in its price as well but anyways lets assume a standalone costs a 100$ less than the Ps3 - Even then the Ps3 would be a good deal. Why? Its a high-def gaming console, alone a good enough reason, then you've got it playing Linux with which you could play any media dumped in a 500GB Hard Drive connected to it, have apps like Open-Office (though of little use on it, I know) and then you have the option of connecting any USB keyboard and mouse and surf internet through Firefox on it.

That pretty much sums up Ps3 will be the best deal in Blu-Ray players for a long, long time to come now.

As for movies, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are attacking the market quickly. By January, HD-DVD will have at least 160-180 titles released for it, and Blu-Ray will have 140+. They are not available in India yet but will be next year this time. And my perspective does not specifically target Indian consumers, btw.

^^^I simply agree. Pls dont tell me those who are getting PS3 will not spend $50-70 on a Good HD Movie!! Best.. As time passes it will go cheaper only.

That Logic is flawed. Features like Camera n MP3 are readily available and usable. If anything u shud be comparing technologies like 3g which are available on the phone and not of any use at the moment. :bleh:

I still wudnt prefer a 3G phone (such as the 668x) coz, when the 3G becomes teh norm, there would be much better phones available.

Also, 1-2 years down the line, the Blueray players would have significantly come down in price. I wouldnt be surprised if a stand-alone BR player is available at $50~100 2 years from now, which is when i expect the BR discs to be the norm (just an estimated guess).

So, only time will tell if PS3 lives upto the expectations, but given the initial fiasco at the launch and the 'recall'ing of the systems, somehow i am kind of apprehensive that SOny can/will pull it off.
