The latest rumor, from Pocket Lint, says Facebook is looking to buy the Opera browser as part of its larger effort to compete against Google, Mozilla and other internet mammoths. According to a source at Opera Software who spoke with Pocket Lint, the company is shopping around for potential buyers and has even imposed a hiring freeze. While it's not too hard to believe that Facebook is readying its horse to enter the browser race, this rumor is just that: a rumor.

Hopefully, FB can promote Opera a bit more than the way Opera team does. With Yahoo Axis in the race, this rumor might well be the reality.
 
Opera is hugely underrated for what it is. Just 1-2% market share for an excellent browser that's been around for a long long time. Guess this might give it some much needed push, look at the way chrome is now the most used browser.
 
^ same thought came to me too. Like Rockmelt. Probably, end of opera if FB buys it. maybe it'll be branded something else.
