I was able to browse the disk applying the 1st step itself, but now i have to autoplay everytime

Its been a week since i bought this drive.

i have quick heal total security 2008, updated till today. Its a registered AV which i had bought.
Las night i had connected WD to 1 of my friends laptop, today after attaching WD to my dektop it detected a virus and DELETED it. So the WD is virusfree, tehn y am i still facing the problem.
I cannot afford to format the disk because, i have 100gb data in that, i have no where else to keep that data, & most importantly i dont have the time or patience to back-up data and then transfer it again. To avoid from all these 'backups' i bought WD, if i have to do the same thing with WD then wats it s use :(

No you dont have to format it. is there any autorun.inf in that drive? remove that.. also scan your registry.. prolly new folder virus..

Looks like a virus. It should be removable using an antivirus software like avg/norton/kaspersky. I had a similar virus infection when I used my thumbdrive at a local zerox cum print store. Since my pc had an antivirus installed it got removed in a couple of minutes.

he he.

looks like one of those usb trojans.

man no antivirus can save u from it.(i have had experince wid them , tried all antiviruses)

only thing that can save u is hips.

and that too not those signature based hips(which update signature like antiviruses) but rule based hips like comodo defence+.

use comodo defence+(not for noobs). it will automatically warn u if some trojan is trying to install etc. but these rule based hips are not for noobs and quiet disturbing when they are in "learning phase".

and one more thing , use tweak ui to disable autoruns from all the drives.

thank u all for ur replies....

I'm a noob so i guess i'll not go for comodo.

Y do i have to remove the AUTORUN folder ?
How to install and run tweak ?

there is a quick way to get out of this.

  • Open your drive through Winrar
  • see in the root, you will definately find a file with this name "autorun.inf"
  • delete it and also find misc. files like o3.exe,fetri.cmd,etc.delete that also.
  • or post a screenshot of your files only through winrar , i will tell you which files to delete :hap2:

best of luck :) :)

Actually I am facing exactly same problem for the past few days. When I try to open any drive thru "My Computer", I get similar window as Jumbo5 is getting. Start-right click-explore -works ok. I have tried all antivirus, anti trojan ,but no use.
