Far Cry 3 - Discussion Thread

Thanks for the pointer Alwyn, I had left this in between but over the weekend I resurrected my FC3 play through, covered quite a bit, the story has reached where I have to meet the Rakiyat leader. Anyways, I try and take down the down the towers (completed 11/18) per your suggestion, somehow taking over the camps flew by me, just wanted to understand how important is taking over the camps, I mean is the XP really needed for the bigger battles, or can I continue my story mode without bothering about the camps (the fast travel is a real incentive).

I ask because on the way to my latest objective, I tried taking over a camp, wasted time, detracted into a side mission had to hunt leopards with a bow, died multiple times, at the end of about 60 mins of game-play, from my previous point, I had taken over one outpost, successfully hunted 4 leopards, and found a relic!

I guess what I am trying to ask is, is it worth it spending time on exploring the area, collecting the extra stuff (relics, letters, memory cards, etc..), or should I just continue with the story line?

If you are not having fun doing all those things then Far Cry 3 is not for you. Just play the main story.

Or let the creative juices flow and take out outposts with a different gun each time or without alarming anyone or pyro up the entire place. Towards the end I needed a high powered Sniper rifle. Got all the upgrades, memory cards (really simple to get) 50% relics.

If you've not been attacked by a predator while trying to sneak up on enemies or haven't para glided kms right onto an enemy camp. Or haven't gone to the highest and lowest points in the map or made the animal repellant and ran after Komodo dragons or taken lovely scenic photographs why bother playing the game? :)

I missed your post, since Alwyn's suggestion, I have since taken over close to 20/34 outposts, it got fun, once I realized disabling the alarm is the key, before acquiring skill to take down the 'defenders', I used to take em down with the land mines, this game has just turned around for me, thanks to you guys! Also completed all of the 'Rakyat' message board tasks after taking the outpost.

I have maxed out my regular pouches, to upgrade further I require 'undying skin' from some hunter quest, haven't figured out this one yet.

As far as the story goes, have completed 'Black Gold' gotta take out the big man, going to be fun, looking forward to this weekend.

This is surely the most entertaining fps that I have played recently.

Just mesmerised by this game so far. So far I've played maybe 15 hours and I don't want to let go.

This is as good as a shooter can get for me.

Co-op is actually good but if one crew member leaves the entire session gets canceled. Same thing happened to me last night.
Btw the game looks good in consoles too but the low frame issue is still there then again its slightly better than the frame rates on pc. However they wont distract you from the gameplay.

One of the worst (Technically) & buggiest game ever made.
I have completed the whole mission "lights out" in co-op but the trophy just won't unlock.:banghead:

I think I am liking this game more now.On my first play through I hurried to complete it. This game is more enjoyable when you explore more. Capturing the outposts is real fun which was not there in far cry 2. Moreover gaining the skills really helps in a more stealthy approach. Some skills are just awesome which I missed on my first play through.

Watch the big cats hunt you when you are hunting baddies. GOTY 2012 for me.
Yes. but the more fun is when you release those caged big cats or any other caged wild animals during an outpost invasion. They help you a lot to distract the enemies even clearing them.:D
Carry those 4 shot GL94s
One shot and any big cat/bear drops dead.Keep an eye out for the fires though.
But it makes too much noise not good for stealth if the enemy is near by .:D

Buddy if a tiger/bear comes calling stealth won't help you.ALl the suppressed weapons except for the ZMR are not meant to be used to engage in medium range combat with a frigging tiger. If the enemy is nearby I always ran away after taking down the tiger and then came back when the heat had cooled down.

^^Yes agree I also do the same. But a flare gun is a good alternative too. I am not sure about silent sniper rifles!

No trust me the fun is when you are trying to sneak in a camp, waiting for the shot on the cage to set the Big Cat free, you hear a sound behind you and it's another tiger which snuck up behind you ready to maul you. Happened quite a lot of times. Absolutely unexpected things happen in this game which is why I loved it. Played it on PC played it on PS3 platinumed it. Waiting for FarCry4.

Yes you are right I experienced that too more than once! Actually I find that frustrating & damn funny too.
Funny because once I was happily sniping a camp from the top of the hill. Almost finished many guards when suddenly a bear attacked from behind ! On my second try that same bear got spawned on the enemy camp & finished them off !:D
A bear can clear an entire camp. I am not sure if I have seen any big cats doing that.
(Yep my first play through was in pc too. Since it was not optimized properly I was frustrated & completed it in haste. The game has bugs & problems in every platform I think. see my old posts. However if you remain patient with it it just gets better & better.)

It does, I was very skeptical of Ubisoft pulling this off. I thought it would be boring. But it's an all rounder for me. Right amounts of Serious, Fun bits. Good Balance of Realism and Arcade and the Weed Field "Make 'Em Burn" Level has to be one of the best.

Unfortunately this game has some irritating bugs especially the trophies. I did a take down by using the parachute still didn't get the trophy. Same was with co-op missions too.

Do you have 2 Controllers? If yes then I think you can host a private match by yourself and get those done. Else you'll have to look for players on the forum to help you out. I would, but I have deleted the game after platinum.

Which trophy is this? If it's "Never Saw it Coming" then I think I did it off a Zipline.

Use this guide to work around glitches.

This was one of the easiest Platinums and a very fun platinum too. I think you should be able to replay "smaller" sections of the game and get those trophies.
