Far Cry 3 - Discussion Thread

Haven't checked the entire thread, but does anyone know where I can get this cheap? All my usual go-to places like Steam are charging ~50$.

Been playing this game for quite a fews days now. Completed 'The Motherlode' mission yesterday night. Also, done with:

- Taking-over all the Outposts on the northern island along with the Radio Towers.
- Crafting and the Path of the Hunter side missions (this I found a tad boring TBH).

The storyline missions have so far been kick-ass!! I particularly love the way the game has interwoven those little moments of spooky madness with all the riveting fast paced action. :)

If you are looking for a graphics card, nVidia is giving Far Cry3, AC3, Hitman Absolution (one of these) free with some cards. Keep an eye out in reddit.com/r/GameDeals/new to check for Far Cry 3 deals.

AMD is also doing a similar promotional, you get 3 game redeem codes if you purchase a HD79** series card, 2 redeem codes if you purchase a HD78** series card and a single redeem code if you get the HD77** series cards. But in the end OP needs to purchase a graphic card which works out to be more expensive than putting up $50 on STEAM.

Also FAR CRY 3 and Hitman Absolution are AMD Gaming Evolved backed not nVidia's The Way it is Meant to be Played titles.

P.S. -- Haven't seen any of the cards in the Indian market with any redeem code save GTX660Ti's / GTX660 and GTX650Ti's being sold with a Assassin's Creed 3 redeem code.

Does it make a difference? I thought they are just advertising partners, how much performance difference is there if you play FC3 with a green and red card?

Not that I know but people with SLi setup had issues. Google it.

Even Crysis 3 is under the ambit of AMD's Gaming Evolved programme.

Got done with the mission 'Fly South' and completed taking over all the Outposts and Radio Towers (boy some of them were tricky to climb!) on the South Island as well. I love these nice long gaming Sundays. :ohyeah:

This game is really good! One of the hidden gems of 2012. And if you have a decent machine it runs like a dream! :)

It's not exactly a hidden gem it won best shooter on IGN. Rave reviews on other sites as well. :)

Considering the mess that FAR CRY 2 was when it came to narratives and certain game mechanics FAR CRY 3 is a good step up for the series.

From a purely story point of view the sequel comes of weaker but all the game mechanics, open-world freedom and RPG-esque abilities make this one better.

Guys, this is my debut to the FC franchise, played a couple missions, the visuals are really good. Also during the tutorial, I thought this was going to be totally stealth based, but during actual game play looks like you can go either way with RPG elements sprinkled to add to the taste, I am not a fan of absolute stealth, as I lack the patience at times, but so far the game looking really promising.

PS- I am struggling to hunt down goats, gotta craft me a quiver!!

Jasku, my advice to you would be to start taking down those Towers ASAP and also capture as many outposts as you can. This coupled with map purchases at the store, should give you a good visibility of the entire map. This way you'll also be able to locate the required animals much easily on the map.

Thanks for the pointer Alwyn, I had left this in between but over the weekend I resurrected my FC3 play through, covered quite a bit, the story has reached where I have to meet the Rakiyat leader. Anyways, I try and take down the down the towers (completed 11/18) per your suggestion, somehow taking over the camps flew by me, just wanted to understand how important is taking over the camps, I mean is the XP really needed for the bigger battles, or can I continue my story mode without bothering about the camps (the fast travel is a real incentive).

I ask because on the way to my latest objective, I tried taking over a camp, wasted time, detracted into a side mission had to hunt leopards with a bow, died multiple times, at the end of about 60 mins of game-play, from my previous point, I had taken over one outpost, successfully hunted 4 leopards, and found a relic!

I guess what I am trying to ask is, is it worth it spending time on exploring the area, collecting the extra stuff (relics, letters, memory cards, etc..), or should I just continue with the story line?

Collectibles can be skipped, as they only grant you a small amount of XP and adds to your over-all completion rate. You can grab them, only if they are along the way of your quest and/or is close by. But exploration is a must. You can pretty much max out your skill tree by the time you reach the end, if you manage to do what I mentioned above. Plus, it's rather fun and this was the first game where I was really enjoying capturing the outposts and scaling the towers. Not only that, I had upgraded all the weapons, pouches and got all the maps to every location. I feel this game offered quite a lot of variety, which really complement your play-style. The main quest line can wait, unless you're short on time. I have adviced my brother (who's currently playing this as well) to do the same. You can complete the main quest in 8 hours, without even unlocking a huge arsenal or most of the skill tree.

Thank you sire, your advice will be followed!

Did you go stealth while taking the outposts or RAMBO them into submission?!

It was a mix of both. In the first half of the map, I was pure stealth, but in the latter half, I got a load of weapons, so would just drop in and start blowing stuff up. Towards the final 4-5 outposts, I had unlocked the ZMR-93 sniper and had equipped it with a Silencer. It had an excellent range, so I could easily snipe almost everyone from a distance. Going full stealth with no alarms being raised will net you a greater XP and it's more fun. There were times when I cleared some outposts just by shooting a cage which had a bear or a tiger in it.

Well u can go through the story line, without doing any of the side quests.
But capturing camps will allow for fast travel ... which becomes a very important thing later on.
Also if u do some silent capture u will have enough xp to get most of the skills and skills are quite helpful esp. the silent takedowns.
Again running through all of the content is your choice, i got bored half way after finishing upping my skill tree
and just finished the story play. Haven't touched the game since.
