New Intel Dual-Core EOL Dates

DailyTech has received a new Intel product change notification that marks the demise of four Intel Pentium D processors. December 15th, 2006 will be the last day distributors will be able to place orders on Pentium D 830, 840, 930 and 940 processors. The processors will cease shipping on February 8th, 2008.

Intel’s reasoning for the discontinuing the four Pentium D processors is "Market demand for the Desktop Intel Pentium D processors 930 and 940 has shifted to other Intel processors. The products identified in this notification will be discontinued and unavailable for additional orders after the "Last Product Discontinuance Order Date."

Chinese hardware site HKEPC has also picked up on the EOL notifications, claiming there will be promotional incentives for merchants to clean out inventory of these processors.

Intel has also been drastically cutting prices on its Pentium D 925, 915, 820 and 805 processors in a bid to stay competitive with AMD’s price cuts. Intel also recently launched Core 2 Duo Conroe processors and is expected to release a single processor Xeon variant.
