This is a separate issue and i hope the mods let it be separate, and not let the issue get lost in the "happy budday TE" mesgs..

Now, i've never really given a shit abt my reputation points, ofcourse do appreciate people acknowledging the efforts, but nohting abt the green bar or reputation as a whole, But heres what irks me:-

1) This retrospective change is downright insulting, Why? because it was TE management who had no problem at that time, now that you have a problem, you suddenly delete old reps without consulting the members or even taking suggestions?

2) How long is this "Do first, dont give a shit and then change if people dont like it" policy go? Is it very hard to make a thread and discuss before you implement such radical changes?

3) It shows that you dont appreciate the efforts of people who post in general section or in hot deals etc..

Let me quote a part of the post made when the rep system was introduced

http://www.techenclave.com/site-announcements/reputation-points-system-1785.html

How to earn Reputation Points: You can earn reputation points by posting/starting a really informative thread. Replying to a question in a satisfactory manner with proper information. Creating something extraordinary or suggesting something really helpful. There are lots of ways to earn points. Also when someone asks a question, instead of telling him to go google his query and then post (which is very rude) you can give him a structured reply. It does not matter whether you yourself searched for that answer or knew it beforehand.

In simple words, do you guys mean- ALL General talk threads and posts are NOT informative, NOT helpfull, Not resourcefull ?

People earned valid reps as per your policies and theres no need to delete them..

By all means, changes are welcome, but atleast make sure members dont loose(even small green dots or points) in your efforts to change..For the future you may change it to whatever you like or believe is proper.

Again this is not just abt the reputation. First infractions for silly issues then, then deleting posts with out even informing or giving any reasons, now this..Shows the attitude...

So much for Happy B'day..:@

Well to be honest I also did not like the way rep points were removed.

Fine, at a tech forum people would like to be known for their knowledge of technology and as such Rep points gained through posts in General section are not at all indicative of how good you are at Tech.

But you can't say that they were earned by some dubious means. Just implementing the new system - no reps in General section from now onwards - would have served the purpose. Removing the rep points is outright uncalled and unnecessary. Everybody was part of the old system so earning reps through General post was fair and fine as white cheese. What was the need to remove these reps :S

General talk posts r more worthy than Linux talk. kidding :P

Stop trying to lure praka and making this a spam fest..

:-P no more OT please

@mods- Plz correct the typo in the title..

baah.... I lost a lot... my green worm is shorter :P

If this is a democracy the mods have no right to decide whats helpful. It should be best left to the guys who feel helped.:bomb: I am gng to complain to advani(look at the ad banner)

This is what happens when idle mods think too much...

Edit: Seriously, who is the genius whose great mind cooked this up? I am curious... :P

Well, i never believed that the system wd be keeping a track of the old rep points' origin.. impressive 4 year toddler mst say.

Nice change and implementation but one lil thing.. cud have allotted a THANKED button if not another color coded medallion as prev suggested by yours truly.

There is one particular member here who got TONS .. *(and i mean Sh*t load of it too) got rep point for giving a heads up on a particular offer which meant minting real cash out of the internet via mobile and u wd think that is not fair.. to be assigned REPS for sch an effort while useful posts even in GENERAL SECTION be ruled out for repping eligibility.

U shd have made sections like Hot Deals and Discussions go the same way as well.. That Aint tech stuff either..

Seems like a flaw to me here madmins... ;)

How exactly do you define useful? Who decides whats fair and whats not? By your logic posting a screenshot of a game is more useful then helping out a fellow member of the community by going out of your way or by giving a non technical valuable advice to the people who need it. By your logic the screenshot deserves a reputation and the advice/help does not.

Its a good concept, to distinguish tech experts from the crowd but the implementation is wrong. A custom "Expert" Tag for the deserving members would have been a better solution. I agree with the rest of the members here, atleast the management should have taken members feedback before implementing such an important change.

I know know my my reputation points were reduced:(

Mods, Please this is not right to remove already earned rep points

i dont really care much about the reps system.

It just gives a new member perspective to look forward to posts of a particular member.

but to my surprise i havent lost much reps :P, being non technical person i thought i would be sloughtered :P

lol, apparently the reps gained from the non technical sections were removed.

TBH, who cares. the length of that green bar is not proportional to certain body parts of yours, so chill.

If people respect you, do you think that respect has gone down even a notch because of this?

Yes, I guess the way it was done might have been a bit undiplomatic.

But earlier , post count was also reduced this way. all of us lost our post counts, especially the mods, most of whom were pushed down the members list because of it. nobody raised a hue and a cry then. I guess the admins felt that the members might be as accomodating as we are now , as we were then.

Have we really changed ?

/me seconds the notion

I'd like to be able to hand out reputation points as thanks for people who post hot deals, I've saved a fair amount of money going by several of those deals.

Quick edit : Yay for neutral rep!

I noticed this, this afternoon and was wondering what happened?

Then I took another look at TE Birthday thread and noticed the word "Retrospective" regarding reputation caps feature.

Though, I understand putting a cap over reps from General Discussion forums... there are many discussion in GD which are tech related and members exchange useful information. So it's kinda hard to derive if the rep points received in GD are really worthy or not.

Plus, all that aside... I think it's just wrong to delete one's rep points without discussing with everyone first. I'm not going to say that I don't care about Rep system, it would hypocrite of me to say that and then question mod's actions about the same, but the fact is that Rep System on TE one of the good ways to let people know about posters knowledge or credibility. That and believe it or not, unless you're really good at what you do... Reps are hard to come by here, so deleting them just-like-that is kind of unjust to users.

Normally no law/rule/guideline/change can be effected from retro respective but it is not a law/Govt. body abiding by Govt. rules and only a forum run by administrators. So there decision is binding and not gonna affect any one physically.

Finally, I can very well say that new system would never affect your rep on forum as one never go by green bars but personal acquaintance only

OT --- i dont want to create a new thread. But can you change the font size of the text in QUOTE/reply box......looks very small.

So y the cry over deletion of reps regarding non tech post..?

tech post is what shd be earning reps and as mentioned b4, u say thanks for advice regarding gen matters.

Though at time few cases are not mutually exclusive which will and has created problems.

Reps are hard to come by here, so deleting them just-like-that is kind of unjust to users

Kinda agree there..

a lil notification/discussion wdnt have hurt anybody. Ahh.. the elites and their elite-pana :P

My thing is that hadn't earned any reps in the General Talk section and had all my reps from PC pheripherals, applications, etc. and now from what I see I have practically no reps left ?

Can some Mod please clear this our or would it be better if I contacted someone via PM ?

Sorry if I sound paranoid.

I don't care much about reps, but now that such a discussion has come up, I notice that a rep given to me recently by a moderator was removed.

Sorry about that.

I inadvertently added CPU/MOBO section to clear list :ashamed:

I have restored all reps from that section.
