what if i dont want to crossfire??
I'll just replace the 9800gt with the 5850

will it be ok to buy a vx450 then??

Yea, a 450W should be decent. But not much upscale left for the future. 550W is a comfortable spot to be in, for your case.

You saying budget is not issue and then thinking so much for most vital component in your PC. :|

Take VX550 atleast

^^

Ya true...when a PSU starts to deteriorate or goes kapputt....it takes down other components along with it. The problem starts to propagate like a cancer, and can result in component melt down, cc, over heating. All this is hard to detect. PSUs do not have that much of a fail save.

Like a bad RAM will show up as BSODs, system hangs, bad boots. Bad CPU will show as system hiccups...likewise. Bad PSU is difficult to detect.

well instead of vx 550, go for Glacialtech Gp-650, retails for 4.6k so quite close to your budget and a great performer with over 80%efficiency. it has got great reviews all over. If you can't get from hyd get it from amarbir@lynx.Shipping won't be much or ask if prime has it as your cabinet will be coming from them too so might save something on shipping.

Go for this PSU as it's one of those VFM products. Also can check out the FSP, everest or epsilon range of PSU's at lynx though nothing beats the gp-650 in this price range

yeah was short on cash so went for another vfm product as didn't need 650 watter.

by the way gigabyte 460 comes highly recommended too.

however the 4870 is gone, running an atom rig on the giga psu now.

also it gave me no problem whatsoever running a 4870 on a gigabyte 460

he has writen PHYSX in the bracket, which means he will use the 9800gt as a physx card and not as a gcard. though crossfire is not the right terminology i think.

^^

Will that work, a green and red together...? I think nVidia drivers auto-disable the Phyx if an ATI driver is present.

Physx is an open software standard any company can freely develop hardware or software that supports it. Nvidia supports GPU accelerated Physx on NVIDIA GPUs while using NVIDIA GPUs for graphics. NVIDIA performs extensive Engineering, Development, and QA work that makes Physx a great experience for customers. For a variety of reasons - some development expense some quality assurance and some business reasons NVIDIA will not support GPU accelerated Physx with NVIDIA GPUs while GPU rendering is happening on non- NVIDIA GPUs. I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused but I hope you can understand.

Unless he uses legacy drivers.
