Selling on behalf of a friend who bought two iphone 4's from someone who brought it from the USA.

He bought 2 @ Rs 41K each, thinking that he'll sell one for profit, thus making the other one he's using lesser than 41K in cost to him.

I guess, he wasn't aware that iphone 4 sells for almost the same price he bought it for. And that the deal he was getting was a fair deal as opposed to his belief that he was getting a darn good deal.

So, he asked me to help him and here it is, up for grabs. The poor guy is ready to bear the loss of Rs3K on the hottest selling gadget on the planet today (reflected in the price below), so let's help him, right folks ?

It's Brand New in box with all accessories & "software" unlocked on iOS4.0.1

Would prefer local buyers to avoid shipping hassles, but ready to ship if the buyer bears the shipping charges.

Price: Rs 38,000 <-- He's ready to bear the loss of Rs. 3K on the hottest selling gadget on the planet today

Selling because: As I said above, he bought 2, one to keep, the other to sell

is what an iphone 4 16gb costs in the USA, either he was conned or ..... i have no further comments but to say that the software unlocked variant sells for slightly lesser than what you have quoted.

I believe someone mentioned something about an iPhone 4 16GB being sold for 37-38k software unlocked. Khanvis I believe has a contact for that.

Irrespective, good luck for your sale bud. Might want to revise the price, if possible, for a quick sale.

That is still locked to at&t. It just doesn't have a contract, hence the fees.

@OT: you really need to revise your price. I got my factory unlocked 32GB iphone 4 for 40k.

It actually gets sold for $599 + taxes but is locked to AT&T. However, phones with 4.0.1 OOTB can be unlocked via ultrasn0w, which is how this phone has been unlocked!!

Actually, there's no "either ... or"

The guy bought it for the phone's selling price here in India. Not everybody is lucky enough to get it for the same price it's available in US.

So, he didn't get conned. That explains the "either" part.

all those u claim that iphones are avaible cheaper abroad should ask their relatives and friends living abroad on status of iphones there .. in 95% of countries where factory unlocked iphones are sold the phones are out of stock for a month atleast ... places like singapore and hk the iphones are not even available in the grey market ..

software versions of iphones are now out with 4.0.2 so unlock is not possible ... so now even the soft unlocked ones with 4.0.1 are becoming rare ...

it is impossible for a person sitting in india to get an iphone 4 at cost .. even if ur friend were to goto UK or Singapore he/she would not get one easily as most have been purchased by store owners there who are selling in black at exorbitant rates ...

u can order from the apple site but delivery is 3 weeks + ... as i said 95% of countries are out of stock .. if u r really really lucky u may get one aeasily depending on which country u buy it from .

IN the end the question is how much premium over the cost price is a buyer willing to pay ... if the premium is fair like a 4-5k higher than the cost price abroad then i think its a good price to get the iphone4 at ..

in UK it's available. Yes there is a line for it, but it's available. 500 GBP officially, around 515-530 in the grey market. In fact, the UK probably has the best availability of the phone across Europe.

It's also available in Vancouver, Canada.

500 GBP is for 16 gb .from a store and the line is huge .... in the gray market its 550 GBP .... thats 39000 INR .. so his deal of 41k is not that bad ... i am sure he wpuld negotiate .. even at 500 GBP its almost 37000..

I have personally seen how tough it is to get a factory unlocked iphone from either the apple store or the telco providers

@khanvis - that was a good post and its important for people to know its not easy to source the iphone at sometimes ebay advertised prices

To add to that it makes your life hell following auctions(Which is the cheapest way to get an iphone on ebay). These auctions run on Australian/Canadian/British time (atleast in my case) and one prospective auction ends every 2 hours or so, in other words hell.

Anyway, to beat that, I'm reducing the price to 39.5K. My friend whose phone it is, will now bear 1.5K as a loss on this beauty, but so be it :-(
