First dSLR

lens r available @ fort allrite but not cheap at least to those who know what they are worth :p , most of em are unaware that they work for the sony series n may give em away for cheap.
@techhead when are you going ? i have to give my 28-135 for a service , the lens retraction has become very tough n it has an internal crack in the glass which happened in courier :( gotta see if i can stop the crack from gettin bigger or get it fixed

i have a f 2.0 minolta 50mm , 28-135 minolta , 35-70 minolta, 18-70 sony kit and 75-300 sony lens , would love to get the 18-250 , is quite an all round lens aye payne ?

@Techhead: Thanks!

@soulfire: Yep, I was quite skeptical about the IQ and useability of the 18-250 but decided to buy it anyway for the sheer convenience. I've used it extensively and its a great "snapshot" lens. It'll ensure that you don't miss out on a shot ever. Problems: AF is quite slow in lowlight but will always find focus, sharpness in the midranges and telephoto is not the best and has to be used at f8-f10 only at those ranges and finally its not that fast.

@vb86: Decided? :) The 500D is not yet in India but as someone mentioned on the 1st page, 52k is the RRSP. US price is 890$, so expect to spend 45k atleast on the body.

As an aside, if I have to build a Sony system for 50k:

Sony A300 or A330: 600-650$
Sony 18-70 DT or 18-55 DT lens: 0 (kitlens)
Sony 75-300 lens: 250$
Sony 50 f1.8 or Minolta 50 f1.7 (used): 100-150$
Total: 950-1050$ or 50k.

This gives you a complete system with IS across lenses for the price you mentioned. But...its not a Canon or Nikon. ;)

Happy shopping!
Payne

What are you waiting for?! Get it! 2 SDHC cards with 12GB, an extra battery and a half-decent LowePro bag! The extra battery alone is worth going for that deal.

my sisters coming back from singapore soon but since she doesnt have a tourist visa as she went to study, no gst refund...

check out Pentax K200D(or K10D) and the K20D(arnd 50Kbody only :( ),,but the thing is if u want sharp images use Pentax star lens, and u dont need t buy a stabilisation lens bcoz they have inbulit stabilisatioin,,go through dpreview.com ,,even at 3200 iso u can get gud size prints!!

^Best of luck getting Pentax lenses and bodies locally.

But yes, if he's getting it from outside, the K200D and K20D are good choices. Also, Pentax have some excellent primes in the DA* Limited range, and are beautiful for portrait/landscape work.

u dont get it in india..u might also get it though, not in pune for sure, may be in mumbai,,the answer that i usually get when asked about pentax in "Pentax??what is that, take Canon, Nikon, they r the best" ,,,,i thought he is bringng stuff from singapore!!

Hey for those wondering about Minolta lens availability in Fort, here is what I have found -

1. Minolta 50mm f1.7 (many available) - 2500

2. Minolra 35-70mm f4.5 - f5.6 - 1500 (very light lens)

2. Minolta 28-135mm f4 - f4.5 - 3500 (Needs cleaning and the zoom ring is stuck)

3. Minolta 28-105mm f3.5 - f4.5 - 4500

4. Minolta 70-210 f3.5 - f4.5 - 7000 (Lovely bokeh)

5. Minolta 70-210 f4.5- 5.6 - 3000 (not a good lens)

6. Minolta 75-300 - 5500 (has a optical issue)

7. Minolta 80-210 - 3500 (Okaish IQ but very light for the zoom range)

There was a Minolta 100-200mm f4.5 lens. But it is no longer available since I bought it. :)
