You forgot to mention your budget for the laptop

Focusing on the size issue, remember that with the MBA comes a lot of lugging the laptop around. (#[member='greenhorn']'s advice to me almost 2 years ago i think)

Thats why I went for a Dell Studio 14" (Studio, because only this model has a backlit keyboard. Which i havent used as much as i thought I would :-/ )

Granted, a 14" is easier to carry around, but watching movies is a pain.

As far as proccy is concerned, my i5 seems to be useless. I'd say go for the i3 and save some moolah.

As Vince mentioned, 15.6" can be a bit tough to lug around a lot so do consider it.

If you would be okay with 15.6" then ASUS X53SC-SX536D is a good option. 35k - Second Gen i5 processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, 750GB HDD, USB 3.0 port etc.

if you can do without the gfx card and USB 3 on the above one, ASUS P53E-S0101D has similar specs for ~30k.

Its clearly stated that she does not want to do gaming on it, so i'd say this is too much overkill for the purpose. i3, 2GB, 500GB HDD would easily be enough.

tell me about HD movies please, is sony vaio vs macboook pro... please suggest

I have my heart set on macbook pro or vaio, tell me among these, i mean c series of vaio , i think it costs around 78 thousand, with i7 + 750gb+ 8 gb ram in vaio

or macbook

please help, i want to buy within this week

Just get the Macbook Pro. It suits your needs perfectly. And I bet your friends would be pretty to impressed to see you lugging around a macbook.

i got a vaio, full hd resolution is great but i too would have gone for macbook pro if i had that amount of money

thank u all, i appreciate, i`ll get macbook pro next week and post pics here..... Please tel me since i am in MBA will i be able to use softwares like powerpoint , excel , word which i wud have to use almost daily.....

Also shud i get 13 inch or 15 inch laptop in macbook, whats the difference , is it worth spending extra 30-35 thousand .... is the difference only of screen size

Yes, MBP can most of your softwares, so need to worry.

And yeah, except in screen size there won't be much difference, if you want bigger then go with 15" or else 13". Since you are a movie buff 15" will be better choice.

Well, get 15" MacBook Pro. It will suit all your needs as you are not going to play games on it. For rest of the stuff it is more than sufficient. Screen is amazing.

Ps - I wish a boy would come up with thread having 1lakh budget. I wish it was me :-P

I completed my MBA for a reputed college 2 years back

1) You won't get time to watch lot of movies. May be once in a while

2) MSOffice is must. Most of the time will be spent here

I personally bought MBP 15"(i do lot of gaming) and i was the only guy who had it in the college. No one is college knows how to configure or troubleshoot in case of any problem. Since i was a techie i managed it. Also it was kinda cool factor then

The problems which may arise are

1) MS office especially word has problem with windows version of it. If i format a word doc in Mac and open the same in Windows, it looks different (esp page length etc)

2) MAC Powerpoint have lot of templates to play with that windows counterpart. Again compatibility problem

3) Most simulation software will be for Windows version only (for analysis like spss, marketing simulation etc)

4) Excel macro in MAC is not as powerful as Windows version

Since most of the MBA college use windows version of any server/chat/simulation software etc, mostly mac may not be compatible (though i could able to find an alternative)

I end up using windows (dual boot) 50% of the time and rest 50% mac for personal works (movies, music etc)

At the end, i enjoyed my MBP but ended up doing a lot of work rather than movies or gaming

My MBP is still going strong

(almost 4.5 years now), Bro is using it for animation related stuff

Go to MBA with an MBA (MacBook Air) and you won't regret it. All the best
