Last night (12/19) after I updated my Kaspersky signatures I was told that explorer.exe has became infected. Unfortunately because I was already having some trouble with trojans trying to enter my system through a USB drive i thought explorer has been infected by some of these trojans. Also I was running Kaspersky at high-security mode.
Kaspersky suggested a delete of the infected files and asked for a reboot to do so as it was the system files we were dealing with. After a couple of reboots and some trademark squeals from Kaspersky finally it succeeded in deleting Explorer.exe. But as some of you might have guessed this left me with a crippled OS. When I booted i could not get my Desktop to run even though the system was running alright.
I had to finally repair my Windows using the OS cd. It was only then that i looked at net and came to know that the problem arose because of Kaspersky signature updates as suggested by these forums.
