Nobody's gonna buy it above 25.

Hell, Why wouldnt anyone buy the Evo X or the 370Z anyway?

They can keep introducing cars, but what's the sense, if you cannot supply the demand. Read somewhere that EcoSport's waiting period is 12 months. In such a dynamic market, this is just stupid!

They have stopped taking the orders for some of the models barring one or two. Sad. :(

I am pretty sure @caos meant it vis-a-vis the competition.

No matter how good or niche your product is, you would have competition for that particular product. This is more truer in the automotive industry in our country.
Noone here would specifically look to buy a "muscle car", they would infact fix a budget and then check what options fall under their consideration set. Even people wth "deep pockets" will have ample of options to choose from.
If this goes somewhere north of 50, I dont think it has much chance of success given the brand value Ford commands over here but then again, the market does throw in some surprises.

What this will do however is that it would improve the brand perception of Ford to the people who are more inclined to but their bottom line products.

Competition? What do we have in India to compete against Mustang? ... Camaro? Challenger?

we have 370Z, TT and EVO but they belong to different league.

You are talking about car enthusiasts who can tell the difference. But most of their prospective customers can't. For them the competition is every other similar-priced car. Whether it is a luxury sedan or a SUV, it doesn't matter.

The 370Z is horribly priced in India. I have no idea how they priced it above the TT. It looks like it costs 55 lacs and the TT is at 50 lacs? In the US, the 370z is at $30,000 and the Audi TT at $40,000.

The lower Camaro and Mustang models start at $23,000 and $22,000 in the US. So they really should not ask for more than 20 lacs for them. Anything more is gouging.

Maybe if you had read my post properly, you do have comprehended the point i was trying to get across.
No-one here would go to specifically buy a certain genre of car, especially at this price point. You basically take the best out of the "set" filtered after deciding the most you are willing to spend.

The 370 z and TT would be very compelling against the Mustang. Infact, i think the majority would just choose the TT at this price point.

@whatsinaname

Gone are the days of cost based pricing in India, especially for cars. Manufacturers now just ask how much a product would sell for a given rate. There are two things why Ford wont even remotely price it closer to the level you are expecting.

1- Selling at around 25 lakhs would frankly undercut their future offerings and they do have to price them very competitively just to have any chance to succeed. Another thing is the tax. These would basically be CBU's from Europe and thus heavy tax would be levied on them.

2 - Ford is planning to position the ecoboost model with the 370z and TT in europe and The monster with the M4 and RS5. I expect them to price it with a similar formula here.

@vantheman5211 your idea about making lists/budgets etc to shortlist cars is perfectly right/justified but when it comes to iconic cars such as Mustang, people forget about all the rules. People may choose a particular BMW model over an Audi because of any reason but if someone wants to buy a Mustang, they will... provided they have the money.
Same can be said for Bullets or Hayabusas... these brands sell because people want to buy them and not because they are priced right or serve any particular purpose. Even if Mustang is priced at 50 lacs in India, it'll have more snob value than a highly priced Bentley.

By the way, how many of you have driven a Mustang, along with other high end/luxury cars and SUVs?

While that is true, brands like BMW and Audi seem to be pricing their cars at around $1 ~ Rs 100 in India. So maybe there is hope for the Mustang being priced at about 22 lacs?

INR 20 lacs for Mustang? You've spent too much time abroad :p

:p

[OT] Oh man the Camaro retails for 23k odd without the taxes! Bloody hell that's so cheap! :(

New 2013s are available at around $21500 right now with the end of model year rebates. And the Camaros drive surprisingly well. (I was a bit prejudiced going in but the TD changed my view). If looks and price were not in the equation, I would even pick it over the 370z.
