Yesterday I was looking for a Hitchi 160GB PATA HDD and found one at a 20 year old source of mine .... APEX ..... they are located opp the Dreamland Cinema near Lamington Road. I bought the Hitachi 7K series drive which has been reviewed in the current CHIP magazine - I got the 2MB cache drive - I did not feel the need for the 8MB one as I am running it in an external USB2 case. I paid 4050/- for the 160GB Hitachi drive.

When I was at APEX the owner Nilish showed me some abs fantastic hardwares which I like so much that I asked him to email me the details of these - one of these is reviewed in the current CHIP - the Vantec NexStar3 external HDD case page 54 - believe me the picture in the magazine is like nothing compared to the look and feel of this case - it is easily the best external case I have seen. :O

...... look at the names... Vantec - Porsche Design - Altec - LaCie and on top of all this APEX is the OFFICIAL retailer for CANON India. Bought my Canon Digital camera from them - "pucca" 2years Canon India warranty.

I asked Nilesh about the Vantec Tornado fans and he says he has not imported them yet but he will if people let him know which models of the fans are required.

I also saw a Vantec SMPS at APEX - nice finish - do you guys know how it compares with the Antecs and CM's ??

YES !! I saw one case at APEX which handles Optical drives... please email or call APEX for details and prices... I also saw something else at a small cannot-remember-the-name shop and it was like a cable and a small power adapter which actually conected any bare IDE or Optical drive to a USB2 port - there was no case involved - keep the bare drive next to the computer plug in this cable and power adapter and you are ready to go - price of this was 650/-.

@Freaky - One of the Vantec NexStar external enclosures Eazy has put up is suited for CD/DVD drives!

The Vantec fans would do pretty well here and give the existing Antec/Coolermaster stuff a real run for their money! The Tornados would certainly appeal to the enthusiast crowd (i dont know if there's any specific model name for the Tornado). The quieter Stealth fans are pretty good too - very silent and push a decent amount of air. The ION PSU's are more for quiet/silent cases, rather than performance - but they are 24-pin versions, so good that there are options :)

Conclusion

Vantec has got something special here, I have assorted psu's and none are this stable. The pre sleeved wires are a nice touch, and the black paint job is nice also. There are more than enough connectors for anyones needs, and the 'Ez-Grip' system just makes life much easier! I think I will be leaving this psu in my main system for quite a while after seeing the results as to just how stable it is. I have found a new psu that I can count on for stable power. The only real question and complaint I have is: Why didn't Vantec sleeve the adapter to match the rest of the cables? This complaint is more aesthetic than anything and is not really a complaint but a suggestion for improvement. I own other Vantec products and have been very happy with them, so I did expect this to be just as good as the other Vantec products that I own, and it met and exceeded my expectations! All in all I can give this a 10 out of 10 for excellent performance and just overall great engineering

I have a Vantec Nexstar enclosure since last year. It is probably the first version. Works great for me. No problems whatsoever with it till date. Also have a Vantec Stealth 120 mm fan inside my Sonata case. It is a good silent (almost) fan.
