my frnd has an amd x2 6000+ processor combination wid a asus m2n-mx se+ mobo.
and xfx 8600gt.
at first used to play small games like cs etc..workd fine..
bt 2-3 months later installd nfs carbon ..
problem started from der... initial 1min till loading quite a 50 fps at high settings then suddenly 2-3fps for 1min or so..wtf?
again back to 45-50 after slow down...
dunno processor probs or sumthin else!!!!!!!!
PLz Help:@:@

overheating........test it in open air with a table fan if the cabinet is cramped.
or add a few fans for better airflow.
and which PSU?.......problems occur due to cheap PSU. its difficult to trace the problem in such cases.

which OS ???? if he is using vista --->choose high performance in power option

then check ur cpu status with cpu id ...check the number of cores carefully....if the number of cores is blinking --->you must install a original copy of OS

he's nt on vista bt xp sp 2 ...

only heavy games having problem laging

but if it was crysis on 8600 then acceptable but nfs mw and carbon too lag

its not permanant lag .up's down's..direct from 50 to 2fps:huh::huh:

@ wht resolution does he play?
Whts the full spec of the card?

just chk if there is too much dust in the heatsink etc......

My onboard IGP 3300 give 25-30fps on carbon max setings @ 1280 X 1024. 8600gt shouldnt have any problem

he used to play at 1440 *900
then i lowered it too 1024*768
others maxed out..carbon 2xaa
and no dust problem its a new rig

gfx is xfx 8600gt alpha dog
ddr3 -256mb

50 fps is wat normal he shud get which he gets but only for a min.

cool & quiet disabled .
checked temperatures of cpu --- 55-60c
gpu--- 60-63c
no blinking graphs in cores.
cabinet thrown open

some background software interfering? check for that using process explorer util from ms website.

i had d same doubt that sum avg antivirus must be interfering.
so i simply formatted his total pc..
installed fresh copy of xp sp 2..
right after widout installin anything like antivirus etc..just installed nvidia drivers 181.22
and nfs mw, carbon.. all in vain.
tht might be card wud be defective so checkd it at my pc...all is fine wid card.

we noticed one thing whenever while playing game,
during normal fps---- cpu usage 50-60%

but as drops to 2 fps ----cpu usage shoots 100%

That is a sure shot indication of either a virus or spyware present. It seems even though you have formatted ur PC, there are some applications that contains the viruses. If u can format again ( though I dont recommend that), just install all drivers, install game and check.

What I wud suggest you to do is to head straight to Home Computer Security - Kaspersky Lab website and perform their free online scan. Alternatively, download Malware byte Antyi-malware, update it and perform a scan. Kaspersky and malwarebyte are very good security software and any presence of virus or spyware will not go unnoticed.

Hope this helps.

its very easy to bundle a trojan along with any file these days...and keygens are the easiest targets in case of *ahem* game versions.

do a virus check for the game if it is an *ahem* version.

also... while installing the game.. check for any extra tools like those for online gaming and anti-cheats...avoid installing them...

wht is CPU temp when playing carbon?

do a complete format and install new windows, drivers and install norton internet security and a registry tweaker like tuneup utility 2009
