Hi all! I have just graduated from the Soundmagic PL-50's. Sold them because I wanted to switch to headphones/earphones with a slightly different sound signature. Maybe, something more 'forward' sounding. I am not a 'mids' fellow. I like recessed highs and slightly punchy bass. Fast bass, and a good soundstage is what I need. I WILL NOT USE AN AMP. So I want something sensitive. And I will be using it with my iPod touch 3rd Gen 32 Gb version.

Please suggest!

The Eterna's from Fischer Audio would be your best bet. cost ~ 2.9k though. If you want to keep it below 2.5k there are not much options which would sound lot better than PL-50.You've already tried the PL-50 which is one of the best under 2.5k along with RE-2.Even Nu-Force NE-6 is a good option . :)

You could also try some of Philips Headphone/earphone models, they would suit your requirements.

Philips HP: SHP2700, 8500 and 8900.

Ear: SHE9800.

They are in the range of Rs.1600-2600 and are easily available in India.

Hi Frank , wassup bro. :)

Well to be frank :P I don't think there is anything better than PL 50 in 2.5k range for earphones, u can try headphones like Sennheiser HD595 which cost above 5k for ultimate audiophile experience.

The meelec m6/m9 might also be an option. The m6 might be the only choice if you want to show off your iems :D

I have in similar shoes as you in few days back...I had Pl50 with me and although I did like the way it sounded, I missed the bass...researched on headfi for few days..and had narrowed down on two options Cyclone PR2 (avail on eBay for ~ 60$) and Klipsch s4.

Went ahead with Klipsch...It has higher quantity of bass and laid back mids, a lil too laid back for me though so I need to EQ a lil bit to suit my taste, but it'll be good for u i guess and so far I find them to be a worthy replacement for pl50....don't know how much u can source them up for in India though..
