I got an Asus M2N68-AM PLUS and was trying to configure audio from the front panel so I went into the bios and changed the setting from HD Audio to AC 97 now when I connect something to the front panel it works perfect but when I connect something to the back panel also audio comes from both front and back is not possible to mute the audio from the back panel.

If I switch to HD in the bios then there is an option in realtek manager to mute back panel when front is connected but that option is not present when I use AC'97 looking for some help.



See the red circle thats where the wrench icon is when I switch to HD but its not there now as I'm on AC'97

I want that when I connect something to the front jack rear jack automatically gets deactivated.

there are diff settings in BIOS for this if you use vista & 7 / xp.

Just change the bios options for OS and for the AC97 setting and you will get required result.

Also, what cabinet?

Needs to support jack sensing.
 
I have the same interface for my Realtek HD Audio Manger.

Had to play around with the settings, till I got around to disabling the back panel when the front panel was being used.

After a driver update, I couldn't find the setting again, so simply turned off the device connected to the back panel when the front one was being used. Do the opposite if required. ;)

Its a cheap cabinet I don't think it supports that

Now if the software (HD Audio manager) is able to detect the audio i/o devices, doesn't that mean the jack sensing is enabled?

And doesn't it depend on the mobo, not cabinet? After all, the front i/o panel is wired to the mobo.
 
There is supposed to be an extra set of wires connected to the jack female, which informs the motherboard that the jack has been plugged in. But most of the cheaper cabinets have that missing. So the Auto feature of the software does not work.

Proper HD audio headers are still not common, though they have been around since many years. So since there is no sensor, the front audio has to be enabled from the software.

But the problem is solved when you upgrade to a better cabinet such as Coolmaster Elite or higher.

Sensing provision is there on the MOBO, but the signal comes from the jack itself.

So now you go the el cheapo manualo way :P

Auto sensing at the cabinet jack is essential for this to function m8, thats why the option skips.

This is exactly what I was going to say. Cheap cabinets don't have proper HD audio front connector so you need to either upgrade cabinet or alone front panel if available.
 
I turn off the volume of my speakers (connected to the rear jack) while using to the headphone! I like the KISS funda: Keep it simple stupid.

Hmmm, didn't know that. :)

So cabinets like the Zebby Bijli miss out on that or do they?
 
AFAIK, there is nothing special in the cabinet. Just the software. Heck if old 3rd Gen iPod can detect if something is plugged in or not, I am sure any jack can.

Lol How do you even expect the front audio panel to work when you didnt even connect the HD wire to the motherboard and you have just simply enabled HD audio on your Bios eh? I read on my motherboard manual that there's simply no jack_sensing pin for AC 97 standard. So the only way for the realtek setting to work is to buy the cheapest CM cabby or some other compatible model(Elite 330 does have a HD audio cable).
