Hi guys,

I am looking for a mid range laptop with full HD display and great battery life that i will use for programming, media and occasional gaming.

1. What's your Budget?
At most 42k

2. What will be your primary usage for the notebook be?
.Net, other programming stuff, gaming, surfing, music etc.

3. What size and weight considerations do you have?
17" preferred although anything above 15 inch should be enough I guess. Don't really know about the weight, but less weight would be great.

4. Any brand that you prefer, or any brand that you detest?
I am not really into laptops. This would be my first laptop. Any brand will do , should be sturdy and provide good A.S.S incase if something goes wrong.

5. Any other considerations?
-Very important should have Full HD display that is 1920 x 1080. or at the minimum 1600 by 900 resolution.
-Second important aspect is battery life. I need minimum 5-6 hours of battery life - its a must for my needs.

Thanks in advance.

Edit : HD+ resolution (1600 by 900) will also do but not anything less than that.

Unfortunately nobody can help you as there is no such laptop in your budget. You are looking at minimum 65k for a Full HD laptop.

If you can dig the earth deep to bring back my (model) laptop, then you can get it in ~53k. :P

Thank u for the inputs guys. Your laptop is not easily available and is above 50k. I want to keep it at 45k at the most. How abt any options with 1600 by 900 HD+ display ???

Just curious - how does the full hd display look on your laptop - is it really worth going above 10k of my budget.

Only one laptop is available with 1600*900 and thats Samsung series 5 550p at 49k. And its config in unbeatable till ~80k.

Full HD is like :errwer: too good compared to 720p. But my laptop is discontinued.

I cannot help on exact model number but the laptop being mentioned is only available in Asian region i guess (from what i read on TD forums). The 900p screen one.
In US the same laptop is available with an inferior 768p screen. I too was looking at this laptop but unfortunately is not available in US. Instead there is a series 7 which has 900p screen.
In order to get more details about the samsung series 5 550p i suggest you check out the dedicated thread on think digit forums.

Edit: @JuGGa beat me :P

Thank you guys! Digging thru that thread now - too many posts to go thru.
On a side note, seriously is this the only option available under 50k? Us websites hv so many models some even with full HD resolution under 1k dollars.

That thread's growth was like 5 pages/day some days ago. Its still 2-3 pages/day. The very samsung laptop has created a boom.

And quite frankly, there isn't any option for FHD or even HD+ screen, but the config of 650M is just unbeatable, even in the US.

Can you point me to the HD+ / FHD one on US websites ?
I am in market for a laptop and thinking of either the 7 series samsung with 900p screen or the sony vaio S15 1080p

@raksrules
If you care about screen I wouldn't suggest the Samsung series 7 or series 5 550p. Even though the US gets 768p version and not the 900p panel, there is virtually no improvement in quality between the two panels except resolution and the fact that later is matte. You'd be crazy to expect any kinda even average color accuracy and both have pathetic contrast ratio of below 180:1. And the matte coating makes it appear even more washed out than the panel already is.

Check out the notebookcheck review display section for more on Samsung series 7 "300 nit 900p matte" panel.

You are absolutely right. I too read about the screen not being great on the Samsung and contrast ratio being poor. I am almost certain on getting the sony vaio which has 1080p IPS screen. I am not concerned about the GPU at all and I am mostly getting the one without the dedicated GPU and the integrated Hd4000 is good enough for me as I never do any video processing or play any games.
