Gain volume of audio in a video file

raksrules

Level N
I have few movies and for some reason some of them have very low volume when played on my TV using my portable media player (video and audio out from PMP). I am sure it is problem with these files and not with player as i have watched a lot of things using this player and volume is absolutely fine for them.
Is there any simple way or a fuss free application to GAIN the volume and save the video file so i get louder sound while playing that file on PMP and then on TV ??

Try converting those video with some free converters, also check the converter settings, some usually have settings like boost volume upto 100-150% etc. that will help

You can use VirtualDub. It has an option to amplify the volume. Open the file in VirtualDub and do a stream copy for the video, along with setting the increase in dB for the audio stream as you would like. Then go ahead and save the file.

^^Tried Virtualdub and when i open the file i get error as

“Couldn’t locate decompressor for format `XVID` (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a videro for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable."

I have Klite codec pack installed too.

Found a link on internet about this error but it did not help much.

Volume can be increased through K-Lite Codec Pack itself, go to the volume option from ff audio decoder and increase it to your liking. I myself use this feature and increased volume is good and undistorted.

Can you explain in more detail ?? As with what i open the file to increase volume. You see i need to open the file -> increase volume -> save in different file -> play on TV

Since you have KLite, can you post the audio video codec information using MediaInfo that comes along with KLite?
I reinstalled Klite and virtual dub now works fine.

IINM, he is talking about increasing the volume during playback.

Thats right, i missed the part where he said he wanted to play it on his TV :ashamed:. In that case, Virtual Dub should work fine.

Install ffdshow with VFW codec option checked.

use audecity to amplify the sound output and then mux it with avimux/avidemux/vdub/super video converter and select newly converted audio

If you want to play Them on k lite codec classic player
then go to options or preferences-->audio properties--> in there is an option for a audio boost slider. Increase it to about 80%. and then restart your media player. The next time you play your file through the media player you will observe increased output.
Else use vlc player. The newer versions can boost the volume by 400%.
When in full screen do a scrolling of the mouse when a media is playing you will see a vertical sound bar appearing which boosts the audio output.

The virtual dub finally worked for me and i pushed the gain to +30dB and played the movie on TV and it worked all fine. Here are the steps on has to do (copied from net).

Having K lite codec /(some other codec...i dont know which) is necessary it seems. I suggest download Klite codec before proceeding. And select whatever you can in the installation.

Any version of VirtaulDub starting as early as 1.4D through 1.4.8.

1) Load the .AVI file into VirtualDub.

2) Under the "Video" dropdown, change setting to "Direct Stream Copying".

3) Under the "Audio" dropdown, change the setting to "Full Processing Mode". This will make the "Volume" line active.

4) Set the volume to your desired percentage of the original.

5) Under "Audio", select "Compression". Select the same compression as was use for the original .AVI (e.g. .MP3). Put a checkmark in the box labeled "Show all formats". Select the same rate as was used for the original .AVI file (e.g. 44,100Hz Stereo 96Kbps)

6) Save as a new file name.

Bump. Alright, I've some .3gp video files whose volume I would like to increase. But..when I try opening .3gp file in VirtaulDub, I'm greeted with 'Unsupported File' error. I've K-Lite Codec Pack 7.10 installed.

Googled around a bit but all in vain. Any way to open .3gp file in VirtualDub?
